摘 要：城市决定着我们的文化。美国诗人卡尔·桑德堡以“芝加哥情节”而闻名，其代表作《芝加哥诗抄》清晰地反应了诗人与芝加哥这座城市的紧密联系。城市母题也就成为了诗人诗学创作的重要表现途经。本文通过文本分析与文化解读，深层发掘城市母题在其诗歌中的表现。在圣经中的城市原型影响下，桑德堡以城市为母题，创作了一座真实而又诗意的芝加哥城，充分表达了诗人在当时历史语境下对城市生活的矛盾情感。在城市化进程继续扩大的今天，我们可以回归到城市发展的进程中从文学的角度观察，进一步总结都市文化的变化和发展规律，并投入到中国的都市文化建设中去。

Abstract：Carl Sandburgs Chicago complex has been mentioned but remained on the relation of the poet and his background.The city motif could be highlighted as a proper reflection of the poets poetic creation.The present paper applies text analysis and culture reading to make a survey of the city motif in Chicago Poems.It is argued that from the inspirations and stimuli of the Biblical archetype of cities，Carl Sandburg located a real but poetical city in Chicago Poems as a motif that reflected the poets awareness of the increasing urban life，in aid of expressing in his historical context his ambivalent emotion.

卡尔·桑德堡（1878-1967）于1916年以芝加哥为题出版了《芝加哥诗抄》，在“芝加哥文艺复兴运动”中产生过深远的影响，奠定了桑德堡在美国诗歌界的地位，也标志着桑德堡诗歌风格的形成。诗人因其诗歌形式开放、不用格律韵脚等特点而受到学院派批评家的和同时代诗人的指斥;但普通民众却冠以了他 “美国工业诗人”、“人民诗人”、“民族诗人”等称号。由此可见，桑德堡的诗不以形式取胜，而是以诗人通过真实经历和情感构建出的主题美。他最有影响力的作品都与芝加哥这个城市有密切的联系。对诗人来说，芝加哥“给予了多样性，复杂性，矛盾性，选择性，最重要的是是成长和变化的可能性。” [1] 因此，城市母题可以算作是诗人诗艺创作的最佳展现，同时也是解开他诗歌创作的一把钥匙。……
