义务教育课程标准实验教科书《英语》八年级上册 Unit 10,Section B(1a)中“make the soccer team”是什么意思？有老师在讲课时翻译成“组建足球队”。笔者对此不敢苟同。要弄清该词组的确切意义，关键是要弄清make的含义。Make是英语中非常活跃的一个词，使用非常广泛，含义非常丰富。Make可以作动词用，也可以作名词用。作动词用时英语初学者要掌握的基本含义有：（结合初中英语教材举例）

一、（用材料或零件）做，制作，制造

to construct,create or prepare sth by combining materials or parts together.

e.g.How do you make a banana milk shake?你怎样做香蕉奶昔？（八年级下册p18）

二、写，创作，准备

to write,compose or prepare

e.g I couldn’t always make complete sentences,either.要随时给出完整的句子，我也做不到。（九年级p6）

三、做出……举动，行动

to perform(an action)

e.g....she made a difficult decision...……她作出了一个艰难的决定…… （九p16）

四、使成为，使变成，导致

to cause a particular state or situation，or make sth happen.

e.g.This can make life difficult.这会使生活变得困难起来。（八下p38）

That made me feel happy.那使我感到很高兴。（七下p63）

五、强迫，迫使

to force sb or sth to do sth.

e.g.They made me write it again and again.他们强迫我写了一遍又一遍。

六、赚到，得到，赢得

6.to earn or get.

e.g.You can make a lot of money.你能赚到很多钱。（八下p38）

除此以外，make一词还有很多其他的意义。它还和许多单词构成诸多固定词组，表达特定的意义。例如：make the bed（整理床铺）,make it（成功),make up for(补偿)等。我们在学习英语的时候要根据其上下文即语境来判断其含义。本文开头提到的那段课文是要求学生将五幅图画（内容是新年里决心要做的五件事情）与五个英语词组配对。
