运用TED课程视听材料,训练“说”与“写”的能力

Step 1:情境性导入

在学生看TED视频以及阅读演讲稿之前,让学生对两道菜进行选择。The left one—hamburger,bacon and fried chips or the right one—bread,shrimp and vegetables?

T: Boys and girls,today,we are going to talk about “the future of good food in China”,but first,let me ask you a question,do you like food?If you are provided with two dishes,the left one--tasty hamburger with bacon and fried chips around it or the right one with shrimps,bread,fruit and vegetables but not that tasty?

S1: I choose the first one,because I cant usually eat something like that,and it is delicious.

S2: I would choose the second one,because it looks much healthier,and I am a little fat. I want to lose some weight.

在学生对食物有一个感性认识之后,引出社会热点——食品安全问题。

T:Those who chose the first one,have you ever thought that the beef in the hamburger may have mad cow disease? And those who chose the second one,have you ever thought that the shrimps may be contaminated by pollution in the river?As a result,food safety becomes a big issue in China,even around the world. I think its time for us to watch a TED video to know more about food safety.

Step 2:讲座视频赏析

在导入食品安全的话题之后,让学生看5分钟左右的TED视频,并通读演讲稿,最后让学生归纳出主要内容。

T:Boys and girls,lets watch a clip from TED and think about the main idea of the lecture.

Answer: From the experience of becoming an amateur dove magician,the author learned about the secret to success—the mindful patience and launched an online farmers market to build a sustainable food system.

核心素養提升点:语言能力——有基本的概括语篇主旨大意的能力,即提取、概括信息,描述阐述意义。

Step 3:演讲稿文本分析

T:After watching the video and reading the transcript,I think you have a basic understanding of what the speech is all about. Next,we are going to go deeper. To have a further analysis.

1.阅读理解题目

T:[Reading Comprehension]First lets try to finish Task One.

2.文章结构分析

T:[Structure Building]Try to fill in the blanks by using the words in the text.

Keys: experience;an amateur dove magician;a mindful kind of patience;current situation;dire consequences;online farmers market;when a sustainable food system becomes a reality;a mindful kind of patience that requires knowing how to act while waiting

[Read between the lines]读懂字里行间的含义。

3.Task 1:Guess the meaning of the words based on the context根据上下文猜测词义

“It is the same when it comes to food...except that when it comes to food,impatience can have dire consequences”

T: Boys and girls,can you try to guess the meaning of the word “dire” in this paragraph,is it a positive word or a negative one?

S1: In my opinion,it is a negative word.

S2:I think its meaning is similar to the word ——bad.

T:Yeah,its something like that. Actually,it means serious or terrible.

“When we went live,18 months ago,the food we could sell then was somewhat dismal. We had no fruit and hardly any meat to sell...”

T: Boys and girls,can you try again to guess the meaning of the word “dismal” in this sentence?

S: I think it is related to less number.

T: Yes,in Chinese“銷售惨淡”。It means bad in a sad or depressing way.

4.Task 2:Paraphrasing 语义改写

T:Boys and girls,you are provided with two sentences,and try to use your own words to explain what the author says in the text.

T:The first sentence is “We had no fruit and hardly any meat to sell,as none that was sent to the lab passed our zero tolerance test towards pesticides,chemicals,antibiotics and hormones.”

[Answer]: ...We had no fruit and hardly any meat to

sell,because those that were sent to the lab were not qualified for our test towards pesticides,chemicals,antibiotics and hormones.

T: Boys and girls,the second sentence provided for you is “So,you may still ask: Why are you trying to build a sustainable food system by driving a patient movement in a country where its almost a crime to take it slow.”

[Answer]:So,you may still ask: Why do you bother to build a sustainable food system slowly in a country where it is reasonable to do it fast?

5.Task 3:Understanding the authors attitude 理解作者的态度

T:According to paragraphs 5-6,the author would most probably agree to that. Here are four options: Haste makes waste;He that climbs high falls heavily;Fortune favors the bold;If you are not part of the solution,youre part of the problem. Can you choose one that fits the authors the attitude most?

核心素养提升点:文化知识——通过比较、分析和思考,区分和鉴别语篇包含或反映的社会文化现象,并做出正确的价值判断。

Step 4:深层次理解与新语篇生成

T: Lets try to think about what the authors purpose is by saying “After all,we do not inherit the earth from our ancestors. We borrow it from our children.”? What does it have to do with the theme? Write a short passage,the sentence pattern is provided for you. “If we...,our children will....”
