摘要民族高校办学特色是学校在长期办学实践中形成的稳定而独特的办学风格。民族高校办学特色的发展既是当今世界各国高等教育改革的新趋势，又是我国民族高校特色化诉求的必然选择。在民族高校办学特色的形成路径中，以民族性为起点，以地域性为保障，以现代性为方向。民族性是民族高校办学特色形成的基础，地域性是民族高校办学特色形成的依托，现代性是民族高校办学特色形成的趋势。

1民族高校辦学特色的内涵

从词源学的角度分析，“特色”一词最早见于秦牧的《艺海拾贝·辩证规律在艺术创造上的运用》：“独创清新，是优秀的艺术的特色。”有事物所表现的独特的色彩、风格之意。《辞源》解释为“特别优胜处也”。[1]《辞海》将“特”解释为“杰出的”“独有的”等；[2]“色”解释为“颜色”“品类”“景色”等。[3]因此“特色”一词大抵意思为独有的优秀的品类和景色。《现代汉语词典》将其解释为“事物所表现的独特的色彩、风格等”。在英汉词典中“特色”指“characteristic”其意为“a distinguishingfeature”即为“主要特点，重要特征”之意。目前，国内学者对“办学特色”的界定众说纷纭还未形成一致的观点与认识。本文在以往学者研究界定的基础上把办学特色归纳梳理为四个层面，即为文化层面、特性层面、比较层面、民族层面。文化层面强调办学特色的形成是以办学的历史文化为基础，具有悠久历史与深厚文化积淀的高校更容易形成办学特色；……
