在英语的单项选择题中,常常会考查对这几个代词的区分:one, ones; the one, the ones; that, those。

下面笔者通过例句对这几个词进行区分,希望对同学们有所帮助。

1. one和ones都是泛指前面出现的可数名词,one指代单数,相当于a/an+单数名词。ones指代复数,相当于复数名词。例如:

——There is still a copy of the book in the library. Will you go and borrow it?

——No, Id rather buy one in the bookstore.(07 陕西高考)

(one=a copy of the book)

Cars do cause us some health problems—in fact far more serious ones than mobile phones do.(05江西高考)

2. the one和the ones都是特指前面提到的可数名词,the one指代单数,相当于the+可数名词单数,有时可用that替代(尤其在有后置定语的情况下)。the ones指代复数,相当于the+可数名词复数,有时可用those替代(尤其在有后置定语的情况下)。例如:

——Where did the scholarship of this term you had got go, Lucy?

——On a computer, the one/that on the desk over there. (05福建达标质检)

The books on the desk are more interesting than the ones/those in the box.

3. that和 those 都是特指,that用来代替前面出现的的单数可数名词或不可数名词,相当于the+单数/不可数名词,需要有后置定语。those用来代替可数名词复数,也常需要有后置定语。例如:

The information on the Internet gets around much more rapidly than that in the newspaper.(07辽宁高考)

I like the flowers in the garden very much, but I dont like those grown in pots.
