With their school still closed a group of teenagers felt too bored and decided to do some-thing meaningful.

Since April, students from Lake Highland Preparatory Sc:hool in Florida. US. started a freeonline tutoring service to help younger students with their schoolwork. Since then. Orlando StudentTutoring has lined up about 50 students. All of the children do schoolwork from home.

Their services, using Zoom, are open to any student who is interested. They've receivedapplications from across central Florida and much to their surprise, from students in other statessuch as California and Pennsylvania. "We ' ve been very happy to actually help," said Jeffrey Zhou,17. "1 didn' t expect we'd get as many students as we did."

The main members of the tutors are from Lake Highland ' s science club. "We were all justso bored." said Pavan Kanumalla. 17. who helped get the tutoring program running. Knowing thepandemic(流行病) had hurt many others. they were "feeling guilty (內疚的) about being bored inquarantine (隔离期)," he said. While not sure what to do at first, the group chose tutoring andwas soon designing a website and lining up other students to serve as tutors. "We' re just trying tohave the biggest influence we can." Kanumalla said.

Brooks Ellson 17. also joined in as a tutor. He helped a third-grade student who neededhelp with math, saying it felt good "just to offer something, to give back". And, he agreed, it wassomething to help fill the long days. The students plan to continue over the summer. offering fun,summer-camp type classes to younger kids.
