摘 要 美国高等教育一直被认为是成功的典范，其高等教育国际化水平也处于国际先列。美国高等教育国际化发展的历程大致可以分为以下几个阶段：从殖民时期到十九世纪美国高等教育系统完成从无到基本完善的发展过程，国际化开始萌芽；二十世纪是美国高等教育国际化的发展期，经过一个世纪的发展，美国高等教育国际化进入成熟期；此后，由于全球教育市场的发展，美国高等教育国际化进入竞争期。

Abstract American higher education has always been regarded as a model of success， and its internationalization level of higher education is also in the international forefront. The process of internationalization of American higher education can be roughly divided into the following stages： from the colonial period to the nineteenth century， the American higher education system completed the development process from nothing to basic perfection， and internationalization began to sprout； the 20th century was American higher education. After the development of internationalization， after one century of development， the internationalization of American higher education entered a mature period. Since then， due to the development of the global education market， the internationalization of American higher education has entered a period of competition.

美國高等教育水平处于全球领先，其国际化也是一直是全球的典型。美国高等教育从一开始就带着国际化因子，十九世纪已经出现较成规模的国际化活动，发展到二十世纪中期美国高等教育国际化引起社会广泛关注，八十年代“国际化”的概念第一次正式提出，到二十世纪末，美国高等教育国际化日臻成熟，进入二十一世纪后由于全球教育市场的发展美国高等教育国际化进入竞争期。

1 美国高等教育起步阶段，国际化萌芽阶段

由于历史原因，美国的高等教育从出生起就带着国际化的因子。17世纪，殖民地时期的美国成立的第一所高校哈佛学院就是模仿英文剑桥大学伊曼纽尔学院建立的。这一时期美国高校的办学模式可以说是英国模式在美国的移植。在殖民地时期，美国一共创建了包括哈弗学院在内的九所学院，美国高等教育的初步体系由此构建起来。……
