【摘要】英语科技论文写作能力既是科研工作的重要工具，也是进行国际学术交流的重要手段之一。因此，重视理工科学生英语科技论文写作能力提升，是推动理工科学生英语素养和学术水平得以发展的关键。本文针对理工科学生在英语科技论文中经常出现的错误实例进行分析，并提出了修改建议。

一、引言

目前，中国大多数理工科研究生的毕业要求都包括在专业相关领域的国际期刊上发表至少一篇英文科技论文。但实际情况是，我国仍有大量的研究生的撰写英文论文的能力还比较薄弱，投给国外各类科技期刊的论文常常被退回要求修改或者重写。学生英语写作功底不够扎实，即使大多数高校都开设了科技文本英语写作课程，但是學生们仍无法避免地犯错误。于是许多学生的英文论文写作模式就转变为：先将论文写成中文形式，然后在翻译软件的帮助下，对论文进行翻译的“汉译英”写作方式。

这种以翻译为主要方式的写作模式看似将英文写作过程简化了，但其实存在着许多问题。中英文表达上是有差异的，汉语与英语分别属于汉藏语系与印欧语系，语系不同决定了汉语与英语之间必然会呈现出明显的语法差异。当学生不能熟练地运用翻译技巧和相关翻译理论时，即便是在翻译软件的协助下，翻译出来的文本仍然会出现许多错误。

本文归纳整理了中国研究在翻译科技论文时最常见的翻译错误。例如，冠词误用、常见词汇和短语的误用、句子结构与句意表达不当。

二、词汇使用不当

1.冠词的误用。冠词的误用是科技论文翻译与写作的过程中最常见的错误之一。冠词是一种虚词，本身不能独立使用，只能附着在一个名词上帮助说明这名词的含义。英语中的冠词有两个，一是定冠词（the definite article），一是不定冠词（the indefinite article）。定冠词是the。不定冠词是a 和an。冠词在运用中比较复杂，学生往往对冠词的用法掌握不好。

例1：“Figure 2 shows the distribution of relative velocity on surface of main and splitter blades. ”

上例中的“on surface”指的是文章图片2中特指的表面，所以此处应改为“on the surface”。

例2：“The software PowerSHAPE is chosen to be a 3D modeling tool； it is good at dealing with free surfaces and curves. ”

这句话中“to be a 3D modeling tool”应改为“to be the 3D modeling tool”，在这项研究中只使用了一个3D建模工具，因此“3D modeling tool”是特指的，所以需要将“a”改为“the”。

2.常见的词汇和短语误用。

（1）“such as”和“etc. ”的重复使用。

“such as”常列举同类人或事物中的几个例子，而“etc.”是etcetera的缩写，意思是“等等”，相当于“and so on”，可用来列举事物。在英文论文的翻译过程中， 常会遇到“such as”和“etc. ”的错误及混淆使用。

例3：“Studies of methodology and process of implementing remanufacturing mainly focus on durable products such as automobile motors， printers， and etc. ”

此例句中同时使用了“such as”和“etc. ”造成语义重复。在汉语中“例如，有…等等。”这样举例的句式很常用，但是在翻译和撰写英文论文时，则要避免造成这种语义重复的错误。所以应将后半句修改为“such as automobile motors， and printers. ”

（2）“In this paper”和“in this study”的误用。

在“In this paper”和“in this study”这两个短语中，“study”指的是作者所做的研究和工作，而“paper”指的是这篇论文的全部内容。使用这类短语进行论文写作时，通常会出现两点误用：过度使用和交替使用。

例4：“In the paper， a SZG4031 towing tractor is used as the sample vehicle， it components equivalent physical parameters are obtained by UG design and testing. ”

此句话的内容是在介绍作者所做的工作和研究，所以将“in this paper”替换为“in this study”更合适。

除了上述的“in this study”和“in this paper”以外，类似的还有“in this research”和“this paper present”等。

3.数字的误用。对于英文论文中数字的使用，大部分学生会使用阿拉伯数字，但会出现不少误用的情况。

例5：“12 parameters were selected for the experiment.”

例中使用阿拉伯数字翻译本身并没有错，但是当数字出现在句首时，数字应采用单词拼写形式，所以此例应修改为“Twelve parameters were selected for the experiment. ”

例6：“All 3 studies concluded that the mean temperature should be 30°C. ”

通常阿拉伯数字是在科技论文中提供数据而使用，而不在一般论述中使用。例中的“3 studies”并非在为理论提供数据，而属于一般论述。所以此例应修改为：“All three studies concluded that the mean temperature should be 30°C. ”

三、句子结构与句意表达不当

1.句子结构过于冗长。在中文中，一个句子可以涵盖若干个观点，可以将主要观点和相关的分论点写在同一个句子中。但在英语中，表达主要观点的句子和表达相关的分论点的句子通常不写在一句话中，它们通常是通过若干个单句来表达的。正是因为中英文表达的区别，导致学生在汉译英的过程中极其容易写出结构冗长、句式复杂的英文长句。

例7：“The gear transmission is grade seven， the gear gap is 0.00012 radians， the gear gap has different output values corresponding to any given input value， nonlinearity of the gear gap model can be described by using the phase function method， the existing backlash block in the non-linear library of the Matlab/zdimulink toolbox can be used， the initial value of gear gap in the backlash block is set to zero. ”

这一句话由72个单词组成，运用了大量的并列结构，虽然语法上没有错误，但是过多的语句已经混淆了句子想表达的主要观点。修改为“The gear transmission is grade seven. The gear gap， which is 0.00012 radians， has different output values corresponding to any given input value. The nonlinearity of the gear gap model can be described by using the phase function method. The existing backlash block in the non-linear library of the Matlab/zdimulink toolbox can be used； the initial value of gear gap in the backlash block is set to zero. ”更符合英语的表达习惯，把主题句的数量控制在一到两个单句上更能突出论文的主要观点。在表达各个分论点之间的关系时，可采用分号。

2.句子表达方式不当。在中文句子中，作者通常先表达背景、原因等因素，之后再写句子的主要观点。在翻译过程中学生也多采用了这种句子结构。但在英语中，这样的表达方式影响了主要观点在句子中的重要性，会让英语母语者认为句子中的主要观点是开头叙述的原因和背景，而并非句子后半部分表达的观点，造成了句子语序表达不当。

例8：“For the application in automobile interiors， this paper studies the nesting optimization problem in leather manufacturing.”这个句子主要想表达论文研究的是“the nesting optimization problem in leather manufacturing”，所以要符合论文写作的表达习惯，将主要说明的这一部分提前，修改为：“This paper studies the nesting optimization problem in leather manufacturing for application in automobile interiors. ”。

例9：“In practice， we employed this approach to dispose of a wheelhouse subassembly of one kind of auto-body， and the results show that this method is feasible.”

此例中的后半部分已经说了“…we employed this approach…”就不需要在说“In practice”了，这样既能突出句子重点，又能让句子结构紧凑。所以修改后的句子为：“We employed this approach to dispose of a wheelhouse subassembly of one kind of auto-body， and the results show that this method is feasible. ”

四、結语

在英语科技论文的写作中，身为非英语母语者进行高水平英语论文撰写确实略有难度。但是很多在论文中经常出现错误是可以通过大量的练习和学习来避免。例如上述常见的冠词误用、常见词汇和短语的误用、句子结构与句意表达不当等。

英语写作能力需要不断训练才能提高，学生应当不断地练习并对自身所出现的错误进行归纳，并寻求相应措施，才能做出有针对性的解决。其次，中英文表达上是有差异的，按照英文写作习惯来完成写作，才能提高英语论文写作水平。
