How one city got one-sixth of the world's orders?

As the largest private shipbuilding base and national ship export base in China, shipbuilding enterprises in Jingjiang city, Jiangsu Province have seized the favorable opportunity of the active new shipbuilding market in recent years, stepped up high-end hull form R&D, and strengthened lean production management, showing a sound high-quality development trend.In the first half of this year, Jingjiang city continued to lead the country in terms of shipbuilding completion volume, new orders, handheld orders.Among them, the city's shipyards’ H1 new orders were more than 1/6 of the global market share.

Statistics show that January-June Jingjiang shipbuilding completion hit 47 ships, 5.0867 million DWT,up 38.9% year on year, accounting for 50.8%, 24.1% and 11.9% of the province, the whole country and the world respectively; New orders reached 91 ships, 9.436 million DWT, up 170.3% YOY, accounting for 52%,25% and 18.2% of the province,the whole country and the world respectively; Hand-held orders hit 274 ships, 27.334 million DWT, up 26.8%YOY, accounting for 47.7%, 22.1%and 11.7% of the province, China and the world respectively.

Aiming at the goal of "building a world-class shipbuilding industry base", Jingjiang is promoting reinforcing the chain, complementing the chain and extending the chain,and creating a new advantage for the development of high-tech shipbuilding industry cluster. Especially Jingjiang high quality backbone shipbuilding enterprises are conforming to the green energy saving, low carbon environment-friendly shipping industry development trend, taking the lead in clean energy ship layout, speeding up the transformation toward the "highend, intelligent, green" direction,promoting the product structure to gradually extend to high technology,high value-added, and strengthening building capacity of such "high"ships. The business performance of high-quality backbone enterprises represented by Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group Ltd., Jiangsu New Times Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., Jiangsu Yaxing Anchor Chain Co., Ltd. has continued to grow steadily, setting off a new round of production and operation climax.

The 210,000-ton LNG dualfuel powered bulk carrier has become the competitive product of Jiangsu New Times Shipbuilding. At present,the company has two of the ships in outfitting operations. This type of ship is independently developed and designed by New Times Shipbuilding,and its orders have topped the list in China. H1 New Times Shipbuilding delivered 17 ships, received 20-ship new orders, and the handheld orders have reached 88 ships. Among them,there were eleven 210,000-ton LNG dual-fueled bulk carriers, ten 8,100 TEU LNG dual-fueled container ships,ten 11,400 TEU LNG dual-fueled container ships and twelve 155,500-ton LNG dual-fueled oil tankers.

Aside from actively carrying out LNG dual-fueled ship and LNG fuel tank production and R&D, New Times Shipbuilding, by strengthening the key and core technology research,increased design reserves of dual-fuel container ships, LNG refueling ships,ammonia and LPG carriers, accelerated the iterative update of existing products,and promoted product development toward high end and environmental friendliness.

In another development, a large private shipbuilding enterprise Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group H1 financial performance and production and operation work was equally conspicuous. As of June 30, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding had received 72 new orders, worth $5.76 billion. These include 10 LNG dual-fueled container ships and 10 methanol dual-fueled container ships. In H1, the company delivered 31 new ships, about 54% of the annual delivery of 57 ships; holding orders hit 181 ships worth $14.7 billion,8.54 million CGT. They included 91 container ships, worth $10.41 billion, 53 bulk carriers, worth $2.06 billion, 29 oil tankers, worth $1.36 billion, and eight LNG / LPG / liquefied ethylene (LEG)carriers, worth $870 million.

It is worth mentioning that Yangzijiang Shipbuilding signed a contract with a European shipowner for two 175,000 m3 LNG carriers in October last year, formally entering the shipbuilidng market of large LNG carriers. This year, the company has delivered four new ships of the world's largest 24,000 TEU class containers with high quality, further consolidating its market position and brand effect in the field very large container shipbuilding. In the future, the company will continue to improve operational efficiency and lean management to ensure the smooth building and on-time delivery of ships.

Leading shipbuilding enterprises are overwhelmed with orders, Jingjiang marine equipment enterprises are also full of production tasks. Jiangsu Yaxing Anchor Chain Co., Ltd. is the production and export base of China's large marine anchor chain, ocean mooring chain and accessories, with an annual capacity of 300,000 tons.Marine anchor chain and mooring chain account for more than 60% of the global market. In H1, the company's various production lines were running at full steam, sprinting for the annual target task. From January to June, the company achieved an operating income of 1.012 billion yuan and a profit of 130 million yuan.

At present, Jingjiang city has 16 ship building, repair and dismantling enterprises and more than 200 marine equipment enterprises, forming an industrial chain of shipbuilding, ship repair and ship dismantling as the main business, and complete power systems such as ship rudder shaft and motor, as well as anchor chain, pump and valve, cable, decoration materials,paint, ventilation and pipeline, and the cluster shipbuilding capacity has been significantly enhanced.

In the future, Jingjiang will adhere to the industrial cluster development,further improve the ability of shipbuilding industry equipment services, improve the product grade,improve the local equipment supply network, establish marine equipment products global service system,stretch industrial chain, enhance the comprehensive competitiveness of cluster, promote the shipbuilding industry to rise to the high end, and build a high technology shipbuilding industry base with global influence.
