一、compare...with...& compare...to...

※compare...with...意为“把……和……作比较”，常指把相似的人或事物进行比较。如：

Paul hates his parents comparing him with other children.

保罗讨厌他父母把他和别的孩子作比较。

※compare...to...意为“把……比作……”，指把性质或种类不同的事物进行比较，有比喻意味。如：

Some poets compared sleep to death. 一些诗人把睡眠比作死亡。

【练习】用compare...with...或compare...to...的适当形式填空。

1. There were some white clouds in the sky， and Lily__________them__________cotton.

2. Before you make a decision， you’d better__________this one__________that one.

二、either & neither

※either意为“（两者中的）一个”;neither意为“（两者）都不”。如：

There is a hamburger and a sandwich here; you can have either.

這里有一个汉堡和一个三明治，你可以任选一个。

Neither question is easy. 两个问题都不简单。

※either和neither均可和of连用，either of意为“两者中的一个”;neither of意为“两者都不”。如：

Either of them went to the old people’s home. 他俩中的一个去了养老院。

Neither of them wanted to visit the Great Wall. 他俩都不想参观长城。

※用作连词时，either可和or连用，即either...or...意为“或者……或者……;不是……就是……”，表示两者之一，连接并列主语时，谓语动词遵循“就近原则”;neither可和nor连用，即neither ... nor ...意为“既不……也不……”，用于连接两个并列主语，其含义是否定的，这种情况下谓语动词遵循“就近原则”。如：

Either I or Kate is going to the meeting on protecting the environment.

不是我就是凯特去参加那个关于保护环境的会议。

Neither John nor Tom can play the piano. 约翰和汤姆都不会弹钢琴。

※either用在否定句的句末时，表示“也”的意思。如：

My brother can’t cook， and I can’t， either. 我哥哥不会做饭，我也不会。

【练习】根据汉语提示，补全英语句子。

1. 昨天我们俩都不想倒垃圾。

三、among & between

※among意为“在（其）中”，一般用来表示三者或三者以上;among还可表示“……之一”，相当于one of。如：

Paul is the tallest among the five boys. 保罗是那5个男孩中最高的。

The nurse was among the volunteers to go to Wuhan. 那名护士是去武汉的志愿者之一。

※between一般指两者之间，其宾语往往是表示两者的名词或代词，或者是由and连接的两个人或物。如：

The new restaurant is between a café and a theater.

那家新餐厅在一家咖啡馆和一家电影院中间。

There must be some misunderstanding between us. 我们之间一定有误会。
