【词语精讲】

1. over prep. 超过;多于;在……之上

over用作介词， 有“超过;在……上方”的意思。与more than同意。如：

I put a blanket over the sleeping child. 我在睡着的孩子身上盖了一条毯子。

Im almost over you！ 我快要超過你了！

【拓展】 over还可作“穿过;越过”解，表示从一边到另外一边。如：

The boy climbed over the wall. 男孩子爬过墙头。

He jumped over the brook. 他跃过了那条小溪。

辨析：over， on与above

三者都有“在……之上”的含义，over 表示两个物体不接触，但有垂直的关系。而on表示在物体的表面上，两物体相接触;above侧重强调上下的次序。如：

There is a basketball on the floor. 地板上有一个篮球。

The sky is over our head and the ground is under our feet. 我们头上是天空，脚下是大地。

The sun rose above the horizon.  太阳升到地平线上。

2. friendly adj. 友好的

friendly是由名词friend （朋友） 加后缀-ly变化而来。 常见搭配be friendly to sb. 意为“对某人友好”，指对别人的态度好、热情，相当于be friendly with sb. 意为“和某人关系好”或“与某人要好”，指的是两者间的关系。如：

It is only a friendly match.  这仅是一场友谊赛。

The hotel staff are friendly to us.  酒店的员工对我们很友好。

Give you a little bit of friendly advice.  给你一点小小善意的建议。

3. with prep.

with是介词，意为“与……一起，偕同，和……”。如：

She watches TV with her sister.  她和她的姐姐一起看电视。

with作介词还有“带有……;有……的”之意，其后面接一个名词构成介词短语修饰前面的名词。如：

The girl with long hair is my classmate.  那个长头发的女孩是我的同学。

4. kind of， a kind of

kind of 是副词短语，意为“有点儿;稍微”。常用来修饰形容词。

a kind of 意为“一种”，其中kind 为名词“种类;类别”。kind 还可构成短语all kinds of 意为“各种各样的”，many kinds of 意为“许多种类的”。如：

I dont like math. Its kind of difficult. 我不喜欢数学，它有点难。

They feel kind of sad after losing the game. 输掉比赛后他们觉得有点难过。

There are all kinds of animals in the zoo. 动物园里有各种各样的动物。

【拓展】 kind还可用作形容词，意为“友好的;和蔼的”，常见结构be kind to = be friendly to 意为“对……友好”。kind常用于句型Its kind of sb. to do sth. 中，句意为“某人做某事真是太好了。如：

We should be kind to our new classmate. 我们应该对新同学友好。

Its very kind of you to help me. 你帮助我真是太好了。

5. symbol n. 象征

symbol用作名词，意为“象征”，the symbol of 意为“……的象征”。如：

White is a symbol of purity in Western countries.  在西方文化中，白色是纯洁的象征。

Red light is the symbol of danger.  红灯是危险的象征。

The dove is the symbol of peace. 白鸽是和平的象征。

辨析：symbol， sign， signal

symbol意为“象征;标志”，指公认的标志、象征;sign意为“标记”，可指标牌，指示牌，招牌等标记，或代表某种公认意义的标记、符号，也可指事件发生的先兆、迹象;signal指“信号”，表示指示、命令或警告等信号。如：

We usually use sunflowers as symbols of strength. 我们常常用向日葵来作为力量的象征。

Maybe it is a sign of a new life.  也许，它是新生活的一种预兆。

When I give the signal， run！  我一发信号，你就跑！

6. save v. 救助;挽救

save意为“救助”，指从危险、灾难、困难、错误中救起某人或拯救某人的性命。常见搭配 save ones life意为“拯救某人的性命”。如：

She saved a little girl from falling into the water. 她救了一个眼看要落入水中的小女孩。

The dog saved its masters life.  这只狗救了它的主人的性命。

拓展：save作动词时还有“节省;保留”的含义，既可用作及物动词，也可用作不及物动词，用作及物动词时，后接名词、代词、动名词等作宾语。如：

save money 存钱，save sb. a place 给某人保留一个位置。

Im saving for a new car.  我正在攢钱买辆新车。

【难句在线】

1. But I like tigers a lot. 但是我非常喜欢老虎。

a lot意为“很;非常”，用作副词，相当于very much， 在句中修饰动词、形容词或副词。

a lot of 意为“很多”可修饰可数名词的复数形式或不可数名词，相当于lots of， 接可数名词时与many 通用，接不可数名词时，相当于much。如：a lot of animals =many animals，

a lot of water =much water

You have lots of / a lot of time to finish the work. 你有许多时间来完成这项工作。

2. The elephant is one of Thailand symbols. 大象是泰国的象征物之一。

“one of + 名词的复数/ 代词宾格” 表示“是……之一”。如：

Mike is one of our classmates. 迈克是我们的一个同学。

I have many friends and Jenny is one of them. 我有很多朋友，珍妮是其中的一个。

注意： 如果 “one of + 名词的复数/代词宾格”作句子的主语时，谓语动词要用单数形式。

类似这样的用法还有：some of +名词的复数/代词宾格， many of +名词的复数/代词宾格”等等。此时谓语动词要用复数形式。如：

Going to bed early is one of my family rules. 早睡觉是我的家规之一。

Some of my classmates dont like animals. 我的一些同学不喜欢动物。
