摘 要 关于韵目代日法的发明者，目前有两种观点，一是洪钧论，二是盛宣怀论。洪钧论深不足信，一是有关洪钧的重要史料中没有关于韵目代日法的记载，二是韵目代日法问世时洪钧尚未接触电报业。盛宣怀论，目前尚无更直接更有力的证据支撑。据考证，韵目代日法的发明者很有可能是郑观应。

Abstract There are two views as to the inventor of the Rhyme Representation of Date. One is the Hong Jun and the other is Sheng Xuanhuai. The belief of Hong Jun is not well-founded. First， there is no record of the Rhyme Representation of Date in the important historical materials of Hong Jun. Second， Hong Jun has not been involved in the telegraph industry when Rhyme Representation of Date came out. The belief of Sheng Xuanhuai has no direct and powerful evidence to support it. According to research， the inventor of the Rhyme Representation of Date is likely to be Zheng Guanying.

韵目代日法是清末民国时期发送电报时采用的日期记录方法，即用平水韵中的一个韵目来表示日期。电报自清末传入中国以来，迅速成为官方重要的通讯方式，但因其费用按字结算，故电报除追求正文文字简短外，发电日期也采用了韵目代日法，以缩减字数，降低费用。韵目代日法自清末出现以来，在民国时期的官方电报中得到广泛使用。关于韵目代日法的发明者，目前有两种观点，一是洪钧论，二是盛宣怀论。笔者对这两种观点均表示质疑，大胆提出郑观应论。

一、洪钧论、盛宣怀论质疑

以历史小说和人物传记著称的作家高阳认为洪钧发明了韵目代日法：“接着盛宣怀又讲了许多使用电报的方法与诀窍，譬如象‘洪状元——洪钧发明的韵目代日，配合十二地支，用两个字来表明月日，如‘寅东就是正月初一，正月建寅，东为‘一东。”[1]368学人侯吉永也持此论[2]83。通过对有关洪钧的重要史料的考察，事实可能并非如此。

《清史稿·洪钧传》中，说洪钧是“同治七年一甲一名进士”出身，之后“出督湖北学政，历典陕西、山东乡试。……
