高中学生英语写作重要性

【摘要】筆者工作的某省重点高中的学生英语写作不尽如人意,因此笔者通过分析社会要求、新《课程标准》和高考阅卷标准,分析高中英语写作的重要性,从而提升广大教师和学生对高中英语写作的重视程度,继而想办法促进高中学生英语写作水平的提升。

【Abstract】With students unsatisfactory performance in English writing in X Senior High School, a key one in Heilongjiang Province, the assay is aimed at arguing for the great significance of English writing in senior schools by analyzing social requirements, the new English Standards and the paper evaluation standards of NMET. Hopefully, the awareness of the importance of English wiring in senior high schools will be raised in teachers and students, which consequently will contribute to the improvement of students performance in English writing.

The importance comes out of social requirements, the new Ordinary Senior High School English Curriculum Standards (the new English Standards for short in the following) and the National Matriculation English Test (NMET for short in the following).

1.Social Requirements

English is increasingly frequently used, as well as Chinese, in the connection of China with other countries. However, English is not limited to listening, speaking and reading. English writing is also of equal importance in international communication, especially in politics, economy, academic conference and the like. Senior school students are the future of the country, so it is necessary to develop high school students English writing from an early age.

2.Requirements of the New English Standards

The new English Standards (2003) has clearly brought forward greater requirements on teaching and learning English writing as a foreign language to Chinese senior high schools.

The new English Standards adopts a graded objective system and there are 9 grades in total. Students are qualified to graduate only if they can achieve Grade 7, while those who are willing to further study will have to achieve the most difficult Grade 8 and 9. Specific requirements of Grade 7, 8 and 9 for students are listed as follows.

From the above form, we can safely draw the conclusion that great importance has been attached to senior school students English writing as a foreign language.

3.Paper Evaluation Standards of NMET

In Heilongjiang Province, the writing section in the paper of NMET accounts for 25 Points out of 120 points, which means that students have to achieve ideal marks in writing if they want to get an ideal result from an English test paper. But the evaluation standards of NMET are strict and demanding.

Generally speaking, there are five levels all together, namely Level 5 (21-25 points), Level 4 (16-20 points), Level 3 (11-15 points), Level 2 (6-10 points) and Level 1 (0-5 points). The marking of the writing works takes in consideration the number of words (2 points minus beyond or below 80-120 words), hand-writing, the content, language accuracy (including punctuation), cohesion and appropriateness. Based on the first impression of the content and language, final marks will be given after slight adapted evaluation according to the specific level standards. The specific translation of Level 5 and 4 are listed as follows.

The table above clearly shows that the requirements for the English writing of senior high school students are quite demanding. To sum up, its quite obvious that English writing is of much great significance. So English writing is worth the attention, time and effort of both teachers and students, without which there wouldnt be any great improvement in English writing in senior high schools.
