加拿大总督约翰斯顿访问中国首站来渝这是他第三次来到重庆

加拿大总督戴维•约翰斯顿应邀于7月10日—14日正式对中国进行访问。这是约翰斯顿第二次以总督身份访华，重庆是其本次访华的第一站。

此次随同约翰斯顿访华的代表团成员，包括政府驻众议院领袖兼小企业和旅游部长查格、加拿大驻华大使麦家廉，以及多位国会议员和来自教育、科研、体育、旅游和文化等领域的知名领袖。约翰斯顿及代表团成员与重庆深入探讨加强双方在科技、创新及人文等领域的交流合作，进一步扩展重庆与加拿大的合作机会。

这是约翰斯顿首次以总督身份到访重庆，但此前他曾两次访问重庆大学，已经是重庆的“老朋友”。约翰斯顿任滑铁卢大学校长时于2002年访问重庆，交流办学经验；2010年3月，约翰斯顿在重庆大学，与时任重庆大学校长李晓红，分别代表两校签署了加拿大滑铁卢大学与重庆大学全面合作协议，直接推动了重庆大学与加拿大高校之间的交流合作。

David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, was invited to pay a formal visit to China from July 10 to July 14, which was the second time for him to be invited to China as the Governor General of Canada. Chongqing was the fi rst stop of his visit.

The accompanying delegation members were consisted of Chagger, leader of Government in the House of Representatives and minister of small-sized enterprises and tourism, John McCallum, Canadian Ambassador in China, several members of Parliament and famous leaders from various fields including education, scienti fi c research, sports, tourism and culture. Johnston and his delegation made a deeper exchange of both sides in science and technology, innovation and humanities, which further increased the opportunities for cooperation between Chongqing and Canada.

Although this was the first time for him to visit Chongqing as a General Governor, he had already become attached to Chongqing and visited Chongqing University twice. He was already an “old friend” to Chongqing. When Johnston served as the president of University of Waterloo, he visited Chongqing in 2002 to exchange the experience in education; when he visited Chongqing University in March 2010, a comprehensive cooperation agreement between University of Waterloo and Chongqing University was signed by Johnston and Li Xiaohong, the then President of Chongqing University, which directly promoted the exchange and cooperation between two universities.
