辛迪·劳帕（Cyndi Lauper），1953年出生于美国纽约皇后区，成名前曾从事模特、管家、空手道教练和马场服务生等职业，最终机缘巧合，成为一名歌手，活跃至今。1983年底，辛迪的首张个人专辑《Shes So Unusual》便以其极尽鲜艳、夸张、多变的妆扮造型领导风潮，同时又以其演唱与创作才华，获得乐界一致好评。这张专辑的销量不仅达到了六百多万张，还于1985年的第27届格莱美音乐奖上获得五项提名，勇夺最佳新人头衔，风头之健仅次于迈克尔·杰克逊。1986年，辛迪的第二张个人专辑《True Colors》得以发行，本期推荐歌曲便是此张专辑的同名主打单曲，一经发行就斩获了各路单曲榜冠军。辛迪后期虽然发行了不少专辑，但因公司的宣传及包装不当，导致销量惨淡。
