If you have ever been discouraged because of failure,please read on.Achieving what you set out to do usually is not the important thing.Let me explain.

Two brothers decided to dig a deep hole behind their house.As they were working,a couple of older boys stopped to watch.

“What are you doing?”asked one of the visitors.

“We plan to dig a hole all the way through the earth,”one of the brothers volunteered excitedly.

The older boys began to laugh,telling the younger ones that digging a hole all the way through the earth was impossible.After a long silence,one of the diggers picked up a jar full of spiders,worms and a wide assortment of insects.He removed the lid and showed the wonderful contents to the scoffing visitors.Then he said quietly and confidently,“Even if we don’t dig all the way through the earth,look what we found along the way!”

Their goal was far too ambitious,but it did cause them to dig.And that is what a goal is for—to cause us to move in the direction we have chosen;in other words,to set us to digging!

But not every goal will be fully achieved.Not every hope will come to pass.Not every endeavor will be completed.But when you fall short of your aim,perhaps you can say,“Yes,but look at what I found along the way!Look at the wonderful things which have come into my life because I tried to do something!”

It is in the digging that life is lived.And I believe it is joy in the journey,in the end,that truly matters.

兄弟两人决定在他们的房子后面挖一个很深的洞。就在他们不停挖掘时，几个年长的男孩停下来观看

“你们在干嘛？”其中一个观看者问。

“我们计划挖一个洞，可以穿过整个地球！”兄弟俩中的一个很兴奋地回答。

年长的男孩们开始嘲笑他俩，告诉他们挖一个能穿过整个地球的洞是不可能的。经过了一段长时间的沉默后，其中一个挖掘者挖到了一个装满了蜘蛛、蠕虫和各种各样昆虫的罐子。他打开了盖子，向嘲笑他的观看者们展示着战利品。然后他平静而自信的说：“即使我们不能挖一个穿过地球的洞，但看看我们在此过程中发现的东西！”

他们的目标过于宏伟，但的确促使他们开始挖掘。这就是目标的作用——让我们朝着自己选择的方向前进，换句话说，就是让我们开始挖掘！

但不是每个目标都会完全得以实现。不是每个希望都能达成。不是每次努力就能收获。但当你达不到目标时，也许你可以说：“是的，但看看我在途中发现了什么！看看我生命中这些精彩的事物都是在我努力实现目标的过程中发现的！”

我们的生命正是因为不断挖掘而有活力。而且我相信最终真正有意义的正是这旅途中的乐趣。
