Directions：

For this part， you are allowed 30 minutes to write a letter to a foreign friend who wants to learn Chinese. Please recommend a city to him. You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words.

Dear Alex，

It was very nice to hear from you again. You asked me to recommend a city for you to study Chinese in. Im now writing to make some suggestions.

Id like to recommend Beijing， the capital city of China. Home to a number of the countrys most prestigious universities， it is the cultural centre of China. You can therefore gain an insight into the Chinese culture studying in Beijing. Also， residents here speak a dialect of Mandarin Chinese which forms the basis of Standard Chinese. A perfect language environment， isnt it？ Additionally， apart from gardens and museums， the city boasts a lot of historical sites. You will never feel bored， for there is always somewhere to go.

I hope my advice is helpful to you. Please reply soon. I am looking forward to seeing you in Beijing.

Yours truly，Li Ming （143 words）
