A retired professional ballroom2 dancer in Tennessee set a world record by running an entire marathon in high heels.

Irene Sewell shared photos of herself following the Guinness World Record-breaking performance as she managed to complete the 26.2-mile race in the high-heeled shoes.

“Well world， I DID IT. Im still in shock， but it really happened，” she wrote. “I ran a marathon today in high heels and set a Guinness World Record with two minutes to spare！”

Sewell told reporters she was inspired by the story of a British womans quest3 to become the worlds fastest marathon runner in heels.

The woman that Sewell read about attempted to break the world record， but she failed. Sewell considered her own abilities as a dancer and runner， figuring it would be possible to break the world record herself.

Sewell brought six pairs of the 3-inch stilettos4 ranging from size seven and a half to nine along with blister5 band-aids， insoles6 and so on.

To top the previous record Sewell was required to complete the race in seven and a half hours equaling a 17-minute per mile pace.

“Thats kind of the moment that I run for，” Sewell said.

Sewells experience as a ballroom dancer made her comfortable moving in high heels， but her podiatrist advised against training in the dress shoes.

She instead opted7 for “normal training for a marathon， and then throw in the high heels every now and then.”

苏维尔了解到的这位想要打破世界纪录的女士失败了。苏维尔考虑了自己作为一名舞者和赛跑者的能力，认为她自己有可能打破世界纪录。

苏维尔买了6双3英寸的细高跟鞋，鞋码从7.5码到9码，还有治水泡的创可贴和鞋垫等。

如果要刷新之前的纪录，需要苏维尔在7.5小时内完成赛跑，这相当于17分钟跑一英里的速度。

“那就是我要跑出的时间。”苏维尔说。

苏维尔的社交舞者经历让她穿高跟鞋跑得也很舒服，但是她的足科医生告诫她不要穿着高跟鞋训练。

于是她选择了“普通的马拉松训练方式，并不时地换上高跟鞋。”
