Martin Luther King Day is a national holiday in the USA， celebrated on 3rd Monday of January each year. This day honors the birthday of a great man， Dr. Martin Luther King， Jr.

Dr. King was born on 15th January， 1929， in Atlanta， Georgia. He was excellent in studies. In his early life he faced racism1， which made a deep impact in his life， then he decided to fight against such social injustice.

In 1964， he received the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to end racism. He had a dream to make the world a better place to live. He was assassinated2 on 4th April， 1968， in Memphis， Tennessee. He spent his whole life fighting against the social injustice.

President Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law in 1983， and it was first observed3 three years later.

馬丁·路德·金纪念日是美国的联邦假日，在每年一月份的第三个星期一庆祝。这一天是为了纪念伟人马丁·路德·金博士的诞辰。

金博士于1929年1月15日出生在佐治亚州的亚特兰大。他学习很出色。在他早年的生活中遭受过种族歧视，这对他的生活产生了深远的影响，他决定同这种社会不公作斗争。

1964年，他因为在消除种族歧视方面所作出的努力而获得诺贝尔和平奖。他有一个梦想，想让世界变得更美好。1968年4月4日他在田纳西州的孟菲斯被人暗杀。他一生都在与社会不公正作斗争。

罗纳德·里根总统于1983签署了法案将该节日写入法律。三年后首次庆祝该节日。
