Animal lovers recently celebrated the news that a landmark[有重大意义的]step has been taken by the residents[居民]of a small Spanish town, recognising cats and dogs as “non-human residents.”It may only have a population of 330 residents, but the town of Trigueros del Valle voted unanimously[一致地]to defne dogs and cats as “non-human residents”, giving them rights similar to men and women.Under the new act[法案], the town has banned “any action that causes the mutilation[残害]or death of a non-human resident.”The mayor said: “Dogs and cats have been living among us for over 1,000 years.The mayor must represent not just the human residents but must also be here for the others.”
