0 引言

科技英语文体（English for Scientific Writing）是随着科学技术的发展而形成的一种独特的文体形式。它涉及自然和社会科学著作、论文、报告、专利、各类科技情报等。本文从文体学角度对科技英语文体的词语、句法、分类及修辞的基本特征进行分析，提出科技英语文献的翻译策略和需要注意的问题。

1 科技英语文体的类型及其特点

1．1 科技英语文体的类型及其表达形式

（1）科技英语文体的类型。科技英语的专业层次多，范围广，如：科学论文（scientific paper）、科普文章（popular science／science article）、 技 术 文 本（technical prose／document）等等。 科技英语文体大致分为两大类：普通科技文体和专业科技文体，如表1所示。

相对于科技含量高、专业性强的科技论文，一些科普文章作者有时为了把科学道理说清楚，会适当运用某些文学修辞手段，不过这样一来，无疑会使科普文章文体的正式程度降低。而可以称得上“prose”的技术文本，范围是很广的，它既可以是“expert-toexpert”，也可以是“expert-to-layperson”，如项目申请书、可行性报告、产品说明书、维修手册、技术协议书等。

（2）常见科技英语文体表达形式，如表2所示。

对于普通科技英语和专业科技英语的进一步认识，可通过下面相同内容的两段不同文字进行比较。

Food is digested as it passes along the long tube which begins at the mouth and ends at the anus．The process of digestion begins in the mouth where the food is crushed by the teeth and made wetby the juices in the mouth.After itis swallowed， itpasses down the gullet， a tube having muscles and going to the stomach.

同一个意思，用专用科技英语可表述如下：

Food is digested as it passes along the alimentary canal.The process of digestion begins in the mouth where the food is chewed and moistened by the saliva．After begin swallowed， it passes down the gullet，a muscular tube leading to the stomach．

两相对比（如带线词组所示），二者在词汇和句法乃至修辞上的差异是明显的。专业科技英语用术语来表达概念，而科普科技英语常用解释性的文字来表达含义。……
