Mawei Shipbuilding Properly Trims Operating Strategy with Complementation

On the May Day eve, the reporter saw the busy production site at the Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding Co Ltd: Two ships under construction on one dock, platform block construction connected, orderly production in hull joint vehicle, new ship construction in full swing concerning deepsea mining vessel, 5000t submarine cable laying ship, fishing vessel and container ship. Aside from ships under construction, on handheld orders, Mawei Shipbuilding handheld container ship batch orders reached 12 ships as well as 23-ship oil tanker/chemical tanker orders;further, it had concluded construction contracts of other ships and steel structure projects.

Has the shipbuilding market got warm again after a cold spell or does Mawei Shipbuilding have good operation and management? The reporter had an exclusive interview of General Manager Zeng Jinzhu. According to Zeng Jinzhu,Mawei Shipbuilding top management studied new requirements of customers in line with situation variations in domestic and overseas shipbuilding markets, analyzed corporate integrated conditions, competitive advantages and disadvantages, and in combination with its brand effect on domestic and overseas shipbuilding markets as a result of long-term effort, appropriately adjusted its operating strategies. On this basis,Mawei Shipbuilding took corresponding measures to form complementation of business, vigorously accelerating steady and sound development of the enterprise.

Zeng Jinzhu told the reporter the development strategy of Mawei Shipbuilding has six aspects. Firstly,privately owned ships are the main business. The long-term worked ship includes container ship, chemical tanker,ro-ro ship and Mawei Shipbuilding has a stable customer base at home and abroad.Therefore, privately owned ships are the long-term fundamentals of Mawei Shipbuilding operating measures.

At the same time, Mawei Shipbuilding made greater effort in highend product R&D. today, deepsea mining vessels, wind power installation vessels,saturated diving support ships, offshore wind power cable laying ships have become new business cards of Mawei Shipbuilding, not only forming powerful support for participating in international high-end shipbuilding market competition, but also paving the way for corporate transformation and upgrading and stable development.

Secondly, responding to the call of the central Party and government authorities, doing a good job of the military and civilian integration.Good reputation and technical R&D strengths qualifies Mawei Shipbuilding for boosting the military and civilian integration.for years, the Company has accumulated a vast experience in offshore engineering auxiliary ship construction and implemented various technical innovation projects, which can all be extensively applied in the military and civilian integration field.Zeng Jinzhu pledged his company is confident, determined and capable of building high quality, high-technology and high-performance products and forming brands in the field.

Thirdly, exploiting the new field of large steel structure projects. Mawei Shipbuilding has national large steel structure fabrication resources, and through analysis for market segments,aims at relatively high-end steel structure projects, such as large bridge steel structure, special steel structure and the like, dodging involvement in lowthreshold project market competition.Based on the idea, the Company cooperated with a national key bridge project not long ago, and it has so for completed some of large bridge steel structure products and delivered them to the site for installation. Zeng Jinzhu vowed to set up Mawei Shipbuilding brand in Fujian and even the national market through large steel structure projects.

Fourthly, organically combining ship repair business with tapping the defense market. Zeng Jinzhu emphasized Mawei Shipbuilding has technical strengths,natural regional advantages, core force of the corporate Party committee and a high quality workforce experienced in long-term ship repair, and this is where confidence is cherished.

Fifthly, giving play to congress of workers and staff. Mawei Shipbuilding relocation from Mawei to Culu Island of Lianjiang County, far from the Fuzhou urban area, brought many inconvenience and trouble for staff, easy to trigger unstable mood. In order to unify staff thought, rapidly stabilize public feeling and overcome a variety of difficulties caused by the enterprise moving, Mawei Shipbuilding held two congresses of workers and staff to discuss corporate major events. The congresses were held in a democratic consultation way, staff reached an extensive consensus and focused on production and operation. Zeng Jinzhu commented facts prove Mawei Shipbuilding people are sensible to the general situation, now the workforce is stable, with high enthusiasm for production, generally regardful of how to deliver new ships as scheduled and how to boost further development of the enterprise.

Sixthly, practically conducting team construction of management and employees. The leading body of Mawei Shipbuilding is composed of 6 members plus 2 assistants, small in number but highly trained and efficient. In mediumlevel cadre manning, the Company follows the principle “the capable getting on”, enables medium-level cadres to“take the lead, be diligent, pragmatic and efficient” in all responsible posts,and facilitates effective operation of each department and production unit. The team construction not only ensures scheduled and qualitative performance of work, but also plays a very positive role in building a good corporate image and further widening market space.
