A crippled child

Said，“How shalll dance？”

Let your heart dance

We said.

Then the invalid said：

“How shalll sing？”

Let your heart sing

We said.

Then spoke the poor dead thistle，

“Butl，how shall I dance？”

Let your heart fly to the wind

We said.

Then God spoke from above，

“How shalll descend4 from the blue？”

Come dance for us here in thelight

We said.

All the valley is dancing

Together under the sun，

And the heart ofhim whojoins us not

Is turned to dust，to dust.

加夫列拉·米斯特拉尔（Gabriela Mistral，1889-1957），出生于智利。她的抒情诗歌富有强烈感情。她在1945年荣获诺贝尔文学奖，并成为拉丁美洲历史上第一位获得这一殊荣的诗人。
