On July 21, some people may let go of their diet and enjoy allthe favorite unhealthy snacks without any guilt because it is JunkFood Day.

Junk food is a term used to refer to food that has a lot ofcaloriesl but very little or no nutritiona12 value. But more often thannot, they are delicious! Popularized in the United States in the1950s. the word is widely used for foods that are heavily processed,and have high amounts of sugars, fats. and salt.

Studies have shown that eating junk food once-in-a-while doesnot have a negative3 effect on health-it is only when one eats junk food for most of their mealsthat their diet can be considered unhealthy. Eating large amounts of foods considered to be junk,can lead to several health problems, incling a high risk of obesity4, diabetes5. and heartissues.

Junk Food Day is the perfect day to treat yourself. On Junk Food Day, you get to eatanything you want. The next day, however. it' s back to a healthy diet.

Different cultures have their own different definitions 6 of junk food-what may be junkfood in one culture, may be considered nutritional food in another.Many people believe that fast food is usually junk food, though somekinds of fast food are prepared in a healthy way and can be verynutritional.

When did junk food start to come into our lives? Well. thiscoincides7 with the advent of packaged foods throughout the late 1900s. Of course, for decades,home -cooked meals were still the standard. However, after World War II, junk food reallystarted to take off.

The population was traveling more and eating out more. and this resulted in fast food chainsand the frozen food really taking off. There were so many different foods for people to choosefrom. However, it was not until the 1970s that junk food started to get a bad name.

Since then there has been more knowledge and information about junk food. and a lot offood manufacturerss have tried to make healthy versions9 0f the junk food that we love themost! If you have junk food now and again yet you generallymaintain a healthv diet. it should not do you any harm!
