Step 2 理解·文本解读

Ⅰ. 1. B 2. F 3. C 4. A 5. E 6. D

Ⅱ. 1. calculative 2. economical 3. vain/vainglorious 4. cynical

Ⅲ. He held out very little hope about recovering the gloves. Thats because when he failed to find them at first, he assumed that people no longer returned things they found on the road. He was upset and disappointed with the society.

Ⅳ. The theme of the narration deals with whether in modern society people still return things that others have lost. Perhaps, the author leaves an open ending with the purpose of making readers think about their own expe riences. In my view, it is common and natural for people to lose things by chance and fail to find them back, but the reason is not necessarily that other people keep them on purpose. We should not jump to that conclusion easily. The lost things may still be at some place that nobody notices.

Step 3 運用·读写整合

Paragraph 1:

Looking at the fairly new gloves in the womans hand, Gary hesitated for a moment. The gloves were black and made of fine leather just like his, but it was apparent that those were not his ten year old buddy and that they were lost by someone else. “If I said yes,” Gary thought to himself, “I could no doubt walk away with the new pair.” But after a silent sigh, Gary shook his head, “No, they are not.” “Im sorry then, and there are no other black gloves here.” The woman put the gloves back into the drawer.

Paragraph 2:

When Gary was about to leave the office, the door opened from outside and a young man came in. The new gloves may belong to this lucky man, Gary guessed. Then, he heard the young man say to the woman, “Excuse me, madam. I just found this pair of gloves on the milk shelf. Some customer must have left them there.” On hearing this, Gary turned around in amazement. The woman asked Gary, “What about this pair? Are they yours?” “Yes! Those are mine!” Gary exclaimed, his eyes glowing with joy. After all, society has not changed. When somebody picks up something lost, he/she will still give it back.

Step 4 提升·素养建构

Ⅰ. 1. This sentence uses the method of exaggeration to show that Gary is very selective about food.

2. The first sentence is a little ironic and humorous, and the second sentence uses simile to compare the gloves to a child.

3. The two sentences form a kind of comparison to show Garys anxiety and eager ness to find the gloves before re entering the store and his low spirits and disappointment when leaving the store. Without the use of “quick” or “slow”, the detailed description of Garys way of walking vividly depicts the scenes.

Hello, everyone, Im honored to stand here to tell you something about my school life in the past two weeks. Our school is very beautiful. Theres advanced equipment in the classroom and it helps our teachers make their classes lively and interesting. My classmates are so excellent and diligent that I have to work extremely hard to keep up with them. Fortunately, my teachers and classmates are all friendly and enthusiastic. I have already made several new friends here.

However, the food in the cafeteria is very poor and I hope it can get improved. Besides, we have much homework every day. How I wish we could have more time for physical exercise!

Task 5

Paragraph 1:

She claimed that the school also had a major rule on other areas of the uniform and had banned makeup. Mrs Ogden said,“The school tells the girls that they cant wear makeup but the teachers are wearing it. Its just one rule for one and another for another. Which is more important, school trousers or an education?” To stop her daughter being sent of school again, Mrs Ogden has bought a new pair of trousers for Ellie, which are 14.5 cm in width. And soon she could go on studying in the school again.

Paragraph 2:

A notice about the uniform changes was posted on the schools website. There were an increasing number of students wearing tight fitting trousers. Tight fitting trousers were not acceptable and were not allowed in the school. The school even paid for new trousers for some pupils, saying that they did not want to cause difficulties for parents. However, what they did was considered a waste of money.
