People in different countries celebrate Mothers Day on the second Sunday in May.

The celebration of Mothers Day began in the United States. Anna Jarvis founded this day to fulfill her mothers dream. In 1914， Mothers Day became a national holiday in America.

Carnations are very popular on Mothers Day. In 1908， Anna Jarvis gave 500 carnations to her mum at the first celebration of the Mothers Day， because carnations were the favorite flower of her mother.

Mothers Day is becoming more and more popular in China. In recent years， some people use daylilies（忘憂草） as the gift instead of carnations. Because in ancient times， Chinese mothers would plant daylilies when their children left home.
