Special Focus 2021年1期

Here in Wuhan, the heroic city which was once hit hard by COVID-19,the atmosphere of the new year is celebratory. The gloom and touching moments of 2020 have become memories imprinted on people’s minds. What was this battle against the epidemic like through the children’s innocent eyes? In a recent exhibition displaying winning paintings in the third Wuhan International Children’s Art Contest,we saw the answer.

At the peak of Wuhan’s battle against the novel coronavirus, the streets were empty, the shops were closed, and people were in isolation. They had their temperature measured at every entrance and exit.Everything seemed so depressing under the strict traffic control. However, the Yellow Crane Tower, not far away, still gave off a soft glow, representing the warm hope. The art of a 10-year-old child is sincere and delicate, and touches anyone viewing it.

This is just one of the impressive works in this exhibition. On the theme of“Fighting Against COVID-19 Together,” more than 2000 paintings were collected from all over the world, among which more than 100 were selected by the judges, and displayed online and offline at the same time.Later, these works will be exhibited abroad in Christchurch of New Zealand,Osaka of Japan,St.Petersburg of Russia, and other major cities.

Such paintings, devoid of complicated techniques, put the past difficulties and hopes through children’s eyes on paper. They serve as memorials and reminders. Now that the pandemic is still not controlled globally, and there are hidden worries here and there,we should remain vigilant yet hopeful for the future.
