The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the World Food Program.

The WFP was “a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict1”， Nobel Committee said.

Founded in 1961 and funded entirely by donations2， the UN body helped 97 million people in 88 countries last year. By its own estimates3， some 690 million people—one in 11—go to bed on an empty stomach.

The Nobel Committee said it wished to“turn the eyes of the world towards the millions of people who suffer from or face the threat of hunger”. The link between hunger and armed conflict is a vicious4 circle： War and conflict can cause food insecurity and hunger， just as hunger and food insecurity can cause conflicts to trigger5 the use of violence.

世界粮食计划署（WFP）被授予了诺贝尔和平奖。

诺贝尔委员会称，世界粮食计划署“在防止利用饥饿作为战争和冲突武器的努力中发挥了推动作用”。

该联合国机构成立于1961年，资金完全靠捐助，去年帮助了88个国家的9700万人。据世界粮食计划署估计，世界上约有6.9亿人——每11人中就有1人——饿着肚子睡觉。

诺贝尔委员会说，希望“世界把目光转向数百万正遭受饥饿或面临饥饿威胁的人们”。饥饿和武装冲突之间的联系是一个恶性循环：战争和冲突可能导致粮食不安全问题和饥荒，正如饥荒和粮食不安全问题能导致冲突并引发使用暴力一样。
