1. scarf n. 围巾，披巾，头巾

The price of this scarf is below ten dollars. 这条围巾的价格不到10美元。

【拓展】 scarf的复数形式是scarves / scarfs。以fe或f结尾的名词，有的把fe或f变为v加“-es”。例如：knife—knives 小刀;wife—wives 妻子;leaf—leaves 树叶;wolf—wolves 狼等。

也有的直接加s。例如：belief—beliefs 信仰，宗教信仰;roof—roofs 顶部;屋顶;safe—safes保险箱，保险柜;chief—chiefs 首领，头目等。

2. own v. 擁有;有 adj. 属于自己的

3. truthful adj. 诚实的，真实的

4. among prep. 在其中……之一

He is traveling among a group of tourists. 他正在和一群观光客一起旅游。

【辨析】 among & between

among用于三者或三者以上的多数的群体，意为“在……中间”;between主要指两者之间，常与and连接。

He is the tallest among the three boys. 他在三个男孩子之中是最高的。

He is the tallest between Tom and John. 他在汤姆和约翰之间是最高的。

5. honest adj. 诚实的，正直的

Bob is an honest boy， and we all trust him. 鲍博是个诚实的男孩，我们都信任他。

【拓展】

（1） to be honest 老实说，说实在的

To be honest， you can't pass the exam. 老实说，你不能通过这次考试。

（2） honest的同根词：honesty n. 诚实;honestly adv. 诚实地;dishonest adj. 不诚实的

（3） honest前的不定冠词用an。

Everybody trusts him because he is an honest person. 每个人都信任他，因为他是个诚实的人。

6. search v. 搜索，搜查

After we had landed， the plane was searched thoroughly. 我们降落之后，飞机被彻底搜查过了。

【辨析】search， search for & search... for

search作动词时，意为“搜查，搜寻”，是及物动词，后面直接跟被搜的对象。

Armed troops searched the hospital yesterday. 武装部队昨天搜查了该医院。

search for用于没有“被搜的对象”只有“寻找的目标”时。

We often search for useful information on the Internet. 我们经常在互联网上搜索有用的信息。

search... for 用于搜查某一对象的目的是要找某物时。

They searched the forest for the lost child. 他们在森林里搜寻走失的孩子。

7. consider v. 仔细考虑，思考，注视

consider作动词，意为“考虑，思考”时，其后可直接接名词或动名词形式，即consider （doing） sth. 意为“考虑（做）某事”。

We must consider the final results. 我们必须考虑到最终的结果。

They are considering traveling to Europe. 他们正考虑去欧洲旅游。

8. while n. 一段时间，一会儿

She likes to lie down for a while after lunch. 她午饭后喜欢躺一会儿。

【拓展】 while还可作连词

（1） 引导时间状语从句，意为“当……时候”。

While she was listening to the radio， she fell asleep. 她听着收音机睡着了。

（2） 引导让步状语从句，意为“虽然……但是……”。

While he loves his students， he is very strict with them. 虽然他爱他的学生，可是他对他们很严格。

（3） 引导条件状语从句，意为“只要”。

While there is life there is hope. 只要生命存在，就有希望。

（4） 作并列连词，意为“然而”。

Some people waste food while others haven't enough. 有些人很费粮食，然而有些人却吃不饱。

【辨析】 while， when & as

while从句谓语动词只能是延续性动词，强调主从句的两个动词同时发生;while也可作并列连词，表示两个动作的对比，意为“而，然而”。

While his mother was cooking in the kitchen， the boy fell asleep in the chair. 当他母亲在厨房做饭时，男孩在椅子上睡着了。

when从句谓语动词既可是延续性动词，也可是非延续性动词，还可作并列连词，意为“这时”。

We were about to set out when it began to rain. 我们刚要出发天突然下雨了。

He had hardly sat down when his mobile rang. 他剛一坐下手机就响了。

I was walking along the bank of the river when I fell into it. 我正沿河岸散步突然掉进了水里。

as则表示两个变化中的动作的同时性，意为“一边……一边……”。

He hurried home， looking behind as he went. 他匆匆回家，边走边往后看。

9. no longer 不再，不复

Mr. Brown no longer works here. He left about three years ago. 布朗先生不再在这里工作了。他大约三年前离开了。

【拓展】 no longer = not... any longer意为“不再”。

He no longer lives here. 他不再住在这里了。

=He doesn't live here any longer.

【注意】 no longer多与延续性动词连用，指与过去比而不再……，经常用于现在时态中，在句子中位于行为动词之前，be动词的后面。

no more = not any more经常与瞬间动词连用，表示“今后不再……”，经常用于将来时和过去时态中。

Now she wasn't afraid any more. 现在她再也不害怕了。

We couldn't stand it any more. 我们不能再忍受了。
