Beijing Opera is a comprehensive（综合的）performing art. It combines（结合）singing， dialogue， monologue（独白）， martial arts（武术）， acrobatics（杂技）and mime（哑剧）together.

There are four types of main（主要的）roles（角色）in Beijing Opera. They are

Roles are classified（分类）by the age and personality（性格）of the characters（人物）.

Facial makeup（脸谱）is very important in Beijing Opera. It shows the roles personality by using different colors. The basic colors used in modern（现代的）Beijing Opera painted faces are red，purple， black， white， blue， green， yellow，pink， gray， gold， and silver.

脸谱在京剧中是非常重要的。它用不同的颜色来表达人物的个性。现代京剧的基本色彩是红、紫、黑、白、蓝、绿、黄、粉、灰、金和银。

In Beijing Opera， actors must follow many acting rules on stage， such as how to sit down，take a step（邁步），open a door， ride a horse， row（划）a boat， and so on.
