Teaching goals:

1.To distinguish restrictive clause and non-restrictive clause

2.To join pairs of sentences using attributive clause (restrictive or non-restrictive)

2.Using attributive clause (restrictive or non-restrictive) to join two simple sentences

Teaching aids:

A computer, a projector, PPT, multimedia display

Teaching procedures

Step1. Warming-up

to experience the differences between restrictive clause and non-restrictive clause by translating the two sentences(Ss write them on the paper and read it out within 2 minutes, T will correct the mistakes, if any.)

1.布莱克先生是那个把我从河里救上来的人。

2.布莱克医生,把我从河里救了上来。

Step 2. Presentation

1. To fill in the blanks by using conjunctions of attributive clause(Ss answer them within 1 minute, T will correct the mistakes, if any.)

(1)She married a man_____she met on the bus.

(2)The book,_____he lost yesterday, has been found.

2. T OR F (Ss answer them within 1 minute, T will correct the mistakes if any)

(1)He failed in the exam, that made his mother angry.

(2)He failed in the exam, which made his mother angry.

3. to draw a conclusion : (Ss draw a conclusion within 2 minuteS, T write the key points on the blackboard)

(1)限制性定语从句与先行词之间不用逗号隔开;非限制性定语从句与先行词之间一般用逗号隔开。

(2)限制性定语从句:和先行词关系密切,如果去掉从句, 剩余部分意义不完整;

(3)非限制性定语从句:只是先行词的附加说明,如果去掉从句, 意义仍然完整。

(4)非限中which 在从句中作宾语或者宾语, 但不能省略。

(5)非限中不可以用that。

备注:本部分知识以表格形式在板书上呈现。

4. to distinguish the two sentences: (Ss read them and answer the question: How many sisters do I have ? within 2minutes)

(1)I have a sister who works in a hospital. (不只一位姐姐)

(2)I have a sister, who works in a hospital. (只有一位姐姐)

5. to review the conjunctions of attributive clause(Ss say them within 2 minutes, T will write them on the blackboard)

關系代词:which / who / whom / whose / as / that

关系副词:when / where/ why

(非限制性定语从句中不用关系词that, why;非限制性定语从句中关系词不能省略)

Step 3. Practice

1.To join pairs of sentences using attributive clause (restrictive or non-restrictive) on Page4 Exercise 3 (Ss think each sentence for 10 seconds and T will call nine Ss to say their answers to us and correct the mistakes ,if any, within 4 minutes)

(1)Here are the farmers. They discovered the underground city last month.

(2)Hangzhou is a famous city in China. Many people come to buy tea in that city.

(3)She got so angry. I dont know the reason.

(4)The old man saw some Germans taking apart the Amber Room and removing it. You are talking to an old man.

(5)The woman remembered the day. She saw Nazis burying something near her home.

(6)St Petersburg is a very beautiful city. It was once called Leningrad.

(7)I remember the soldier. He told me not to tell anyone what I had seen.

(8)The soldiers moved the boxes to a mine. They wanted to hide them.

2. in groups look at the sentences on Page 4 Exercise 4 , to complete them by adding the restrictive or non-restrictive clauses.(Ss form eight groups to discuss and tell each other their answers, and each group will show one sentence for us, within 1 minute, T will show their answers by using multimedia display and correct the mistakes with Ss if any within 6 minutes)

Step 4. Production

Ss: to read the passage together and fill in the blanks, T will give clues to help correct the mistakes if any within 5 minutes.
