August 4 is Japanese Chopsticks Day. Every year, women in Japan buy new chopsticks and burn their used chopsticks in order to express their appreciation1, since chopsticks really make great contributions to their culinary2 culture. Parents and teachers also teach children how to use chopsticks. Scientists from Japan even do an experiment to study the movements of peoples hands when using chopsticks. Finally, they drew an interesting conclusion3 that childrens intelligence4 would be raised by using chopsticks. So, chopsticks are also looked upon as the quintessence5 of Japanese culture. Some Japanese people attribute6 their intelligence to the use of chopsticks. In addition, it reminds people to keep to their traditional culinary culture when they enjoy western food with a knife and fork.

endprint
