1月12日，中国云南热带雨林的白眉长臂猿被认定为是灵长类新物种，取名高黎贡白眉长臂猿（Gaoligong hoolock gibbon），又叫天行白眉长臂猿（skywalker hoolock gibbon）。白眉长臂猿并非最近才发现的，然而许多年来科学家们一直以为白眉长臂猿只有一种，经过几代科学家的努力，才将其分为东白眉长臂猿和西白眉长臂猿两种。近十年来，在中山大学范朋飞教授的牵头下，由五个国家15名科学家组成的研究团队协力对云南的东白眉长臂猿进行长期观察和鉴定，终于将其确定为新物种。高黎贡白眉长臂猿常年在树梢活动，目前仅有不超过200只，属于濒危物种，需要人类共同保护。
