The Summer Palace

The Summer Palace is one of the oldest and the most beautiful parks in Beijing.It lies in the northwest of Beijing,and it is the largest and bestimperial1garden which we can see now in China.The sixth Qingemperor2Qian Long named it Qingyiyuan.During the SecondOpium3War,it was destroyed by fire.In 1888,Ci Xi spent much money rebuilding it and named it Yiheyuan.

颐和园是北京最古老、最美丽的公园之一，它位于北京市西北部，是北京现存的最大最好的皇家园林。清朝第六代皇帝乾隆曾把它命名为“清漪园”。它在第二次鸦片战争期间被战火烧毁。1888年，慈禧花费巨资重修清漪园，并改名叫“颐和园”。

The Summer Palace,dominated4mainly by Longevity Hill and Kunming Lake,covers anarea5of 2.9 square kilometers,three quarters of which is under water.Longevity Hill is the centre of the garden.On the hill,there is a big palace with many walls,towers,rooms and a greatpavilion6.Along the Kunming Lake is theLong Corridor7.It is 728 metres long along the northernshore8.On the lake there is a famous white bridge with 17spans9.All the buildings are painted with old beautiful Chinese paintings.

颐和园主要由万寿山和昆明湖两部分组成，全园占地2.9平方公里，水面大约占其面积的四分之三。万寿山是全园的中心。山上有一个大宫殿，里面有很多围墙、高塔、房间，还有一个大亭阁。昆明湖的北岸有一道728米长的长廊。湖上有一座著名的白色桥梁，共有17个桥洞。所有的建筑物都有中国古老的绘画装饰。

The Summer Palace wasdesignated10aWorld Heritage11site by UNESCO in 1998.The Summer Palace has become a popular and relaxingdestination12for both Chinese and foreign tourists now.

1998年，颐和园被UNESCO（联合国教科文组织）列入《世界遗产名录》。如今，颐和园已成为中外游人喜爱游玩的好去处。
