一、合成法

合成法是两个或两个以上的词按一定的规则合成一个新词的方法。这样的词被称为合成词。

【考例1】（单句改错）On my recent visit， I held a lively three-months-old twin that had been rejected by its mother.（2016年全国I卷，语法填空改编）

解析：three-months-old改为three-month-old。在带有连字符的复合形容词中，名词应用单数形式。

【考例2】（单句改错）Stephen Francis observed then eighteen-years-old Shelly Ann as a track meet and was convinced that he had seen the beginning of true greatness.（2016年江苏卷，阅读理解改编）

解析：eighteen-years-old改为eighteen-year-old。在题干中，eighteen-years-old使用错误，中间的名词years应用单数形式。

二、派生法

派生法是在词根上添加后缀或前缀来变成新单词的方法，这样构成的单词被称为派生词。添加后缀往往改变词性，而添加前缀往往改变词义。

【考例1】But for tourists like me， pandas are its top 61 （attract）.（2016年全国I卷）

解析：attraction。根据空前的定语可知，空格处应该填写提示词的名词形式。

【考例2】 Recent studies show that we are far more productive at work if we take short breaks

47 （regular）.（2016年全国II卷）

解析：regularly。 空格处在句中作状语，用于修饰谓语动词，故填提示词的副词形式。

三、转化法

转化法指的是单词在词形不变的情况下，由一种词性直接转换为另外一种词性的方法。

四、缩写和简写

缩写和简写是通过缩写或简写的形式来构成单词的方法，通常被称为缩略法。
