故事的起因有点离谱，生活在美国大陆东西两端的两个陌生男女某天被不可思议的力量所牵引，能够共享视觉、听觉、嗅觉和触觉，两颗心意外地走到了一起。他们在不同的时空里遥遥相望，彼此相互感知交流。他眼中的世界是荒漠炙热的金黄，她眼中的世界是都市寒冬的雪白，两个截然不同的世界融合在一起，绽放出温暖的色调。柏拉图有个很有趣的爱情理论：“原来的人都是两性人，自从上帝把人一劈为二，所有的这一半都在世界上漫游着寻找另一半。”迪伦和丽贝卡无疑就是彼此的另一半。

Ain’t 原本是美国南部一帮文盲、粗人说的话，现在趋于普遍，并且已经被收录到各类词典当中。最初它是am not的缩写，写作amn’t。后来由于其发音连读（省去前一个辅音m，只发后一个辅音n），以讹传讹地变成了ain’t。ain’t 原则上只适用于am not的缩写，在口语中很常见，但极少被用于书面语中。
