一、教学内容

本课的教学内容是《牛津高中英语》模块八第二单元Reading Turandot in Beijing(图兰朵在北京)。本单元主要介绍西方音乐及其发展史,歌剧作为一种重要的音乐形式,深受广大人民的喜爱。本课是某音乐杂志一名英国记者对1998年张艺谋导演的在紫禁城上演的歌剧“Turandot”的评论。学生对歌剧这种西方的音乐形式普遍比较陌生,而对中国导演张艺谋导演的歌剧充满好奇。这一课会在满足他们好奇心的同时,让他们学会欣赏歌剧、评论歌剧。

二、教学目标

(一)语言知识目标

1.词汇

(1)学生能够准确掌握并运用有关opera review的一些术语,如setting,plot,review等。

(2)学生能够准确使用be set in,take place,story,at this time等描述故事背景。

(3)学生能够准确使用act, cast,stage等词描述演员角色

(4)学生能够正确运用褒义、贬义及中性形容词对演员及剧中人物进行评价。

2.语法

学生能够使用正确的时态叙述故事。

3.功能

学生能够使用恰当的句型表达评论及其他观点。

(二)语言技能目标

1.阅读技能

(1)学生能够通过略读,利用关键信息总结段落大意。

(2)学生能够初步了解段落主题句的作用及其语言结构特征。

(3)学生能够建构“戏剧评论”这种文体的阅读结构图式,并利用该图示理解评论类文章。

2.写作技能

(1)学生通过对于范文的观察、模仿和老师的范例指导,在遣词造句、组织语言方面有所提高。

(2)学生通过观察、模仿范文的段落结构,学会对从各种渠道获得的素材进行有机的组合。

(3)通过当堂有指导的仿写和小组互评,使学生学会从谋篇布局、遣词造句等方面修改自己的文章。

(三)学习策略目标

1.学生能够进行观察对比,总结opera review的写作方法。

2.学生能够通过模仿进行自主体验学习。

(四)文化意识目标

通过对本课opera review 的学习,使学生关注不同文化背景下的人们对于歌剧的情感态度。

(五)情感态度目标

1.学生能够使用恰当的语言表达对歌剧、人物、主题等的情感、态度。

2.通过小组互评,使学生在合作中互相学习,在分享中共同进步。

三、学情分析

高二年级学生对音乐的欣赏已经有了一定的水准和自主学习的能力,多数同学在老师的提示下,结合上下文,在几分钟之内就能理解单词和文章的大意,但少数学生的知识储备和知识水平还有欠缺。因此,笔者结合学生实际,在指导学生读课文、理解剧情时,充分发挥引导者、组织者的作用,让学生通过小组合作、探讨、视频欣赏等多种形式进行阅读,并及时指导,由此更充分地激发学生对学习和探索的热情。

四、教学重点及难点

1.了解revew 的文体特点并以此指导阅读;训练skimming, scanning, careful reading等阅读微技能;

2.引导学生总结review 写作中的共性问题;

3.对文章深层次的理解及细节的欣赏,认识及分析主人公的人物特征及人物性格。

五、教学步骤

Step 1 Lead-in

1. Show the students a picture of Zhang Yimou. And ask them the following questions.

Who is the person in the picture? What does he do? (Zhang Yimou. He is a famous director in China and also in the world.)

What has he directed? (Bid for the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing, the opening ceremony and the closing ceremony of the 29th Olympic Games, for which he won the title of “The figures that move China in 2008”.)

Can you name some of his movies? (Raise the red lantern; Curse of the golden flower...)

Who played in his movie Curse of the golden flower? (Gong Li, Jay Chou, Chou Runfa starred in the movie. Or we can also say that Zhang Yimou cast them in the movie. )

2. Introduce the style of writing to the student.

If you want to watch one of Zhangs movies and you dont know if it is a good one or not, where can you find the information you want? (Ask your friends for opinions or you can also read a film review.)

What is a review? (A review is a report in a newspaper or magazine in which sb. gives their opinion of a book, play, film, etc.)

So what do you expect to read in an opera review? (Some background information, the plot of an opera, who stars in the opera and what people think of the opera ...)

Step 2 Skimming

Read the opera as quickly as possible and find out what it is about. What aspects of information can you find in the review? Were your guesses right?

(It is an opera review about Turandot staged in the Forbidden City. We can find some background information, the plot of an opera, who stars in the opera and what people think of the opera in the reading.)

Step 3 Reading aloud

Divide the passage into 4 parts and find out the main idea of each part.

Part 1 (Para 1): Background information

Part 2 (Para 2-7): The plot

Part 3 (Para 8): Other information about the opera

Part 4 (Para 9): Evaluation

Step 4 Scanning

Read the passage again to find out some detailed information.

Main characters: Turandot- a Chinese princess; Calaf- prince; Liu- Calafs fathers young slave

Setting: the Forbidden City

Plot: The story takes on the classic love triangle of the three main characters Turandot, Calaf and Liu. Liu loves Calaf, but Calaf has fallen in love with Turandot. Because Turandot does not want to get married, she declares that anyone who wants to marry her must answer her three questions. If the one cannot answer these questions, he will be killed.

Director: Zhang Yimou

Conductor: Zubin Mehta

Actors and actresses: Sharon Sweet; Barbara Hendricks; Kristjan Johannsson

Step 5 Careful reading

Read Paragraphs 4-6 and put the events of the story in the correct order.

( ) Prince Calaf manages to answer the riddles.

( ) However, Liu, the slave girl, expresses her love for Calaf.

( ) Princess Turandot has Liu beaten, and Liu kills herself.

( ) Prince Calaf sees the prince and falls in love with her.

( ) A prince is killed as he cannot answer the princesss riddles.

( ) The prince wins the princesss heart with a kiss.

( ) Calaf says he will solve the riddles and marry Turandot.

( ) Princess Turandot is so upset that Prince Calaf says she does not have to marry him if she can guess his name.

Find out the words that reflect the writers opinion about the opera.

Step 6 Homework

Work in pairs.

Suppose one of you have watched Turandot. Your partner is asking you about the basic information about the opera. Make up a dialogue between the two.

[设计意图]

第一步的设置起着warming-up的作用,给学生以内容与词汇上的准备,由此自然、快速地切入到阅读内容;通过第二步骤的快速阅读,能帮助学生迅速把握住文章主要内容;第三步是帮助学生梳理文章结构;第四步的细读能更好地帮助学生把握内容细节;第五步更进一步地细读故事的情节,让学生了解剧评中一定要包含作者的评论。

六、教学反思

本课是阅读教学,阅读的主要目的是通过对文本的研读获取必要的信息,通过略读和跳读等技巧,培养学生快速捕捉信息的能力,帮助学生更好地欣赏歌剧剧评。通过设计相关的练习,检测和巩固学生对课文的理解,帮助学生宏观把握全文和复述课文。
