CAEXPO’s business opportunity

According to Mr. Huang Youcai, a local villager in Chongzuo City, Guangxi, China, his life has been unconsciously influenced by CAEXPOs over the years, although it seems that previous forums and dazzling commodities are not closely related to him. His hometown -- Aidian Town, which is located in the border area between China and Vietnam, is not only one of the fi rst-class ports approved by the Chinese government but also a vital land-route communication access to link Southwest China with Vietnam and even Southeast Asia.

Due to Aidian Town’s exceptional natural conditions such as mild and moist climate, and unique landforms, various Chinese herbs are endowed with excellent growing environment. Herbs which are quite familiar to the local, without any expectation, have been giving robust impetus to the booming development of Aidian Town’s Chinese herb farming, and have been sold together with other medicinal materials including cinnamon, fructus amomi,Ganoderma atrum, etc.

Several years ago, Guangxi Yuntian Industrial Co.,Ltd. was introduced by the local government to Aidian Town. “Yuntian Border-trade City & Chinese Traditional Medicine City” invested by Guangxi Yuntian, with the total investment volume of 1.5 billion yuan, is not only a major project in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region but also one of the key projects signed during the CAEXPO. Under the guidance and infl uence of Guangxi Yuntian, the townsmen are aware of Chinese herbs’ extremely high economic value, including their application to medicine as well as health-care product industry;moreover, their products of Chinese herbs could not only be exported to the ASEAN countries in Indo-China Peninsula, but also they, by virtue of the platforms provided by CAEXPO, would be introduced to other ASEAN countries, and even more markets in farther places. In addition, a special leading group will be organized by the local government for the production work of Chinese medicinal materials, the implementation of various preferential policies, the guidance and assistance to the local herb planters, as well as the development of Aidian’s Chinese herb medicine industry.

Under the backdrop, Mr. Huang decided to try to be involved in the plantation of Chinese herbs two year ago, and he identified Caulis Spatholobi as his first plant. At that time, he believed that it is feasible to plant Chinese herbs due to CAEXPO’s tremendous infl uence, as well as the strong support by the local government. Before long, real benefi ts were brought to him, earning about 40 thousand yuan within just one year, which exceeded greatly the earning of planting commercial crops and that of seeking employment in the city. “The quality of my life is much better than before,” said Huang.

At present, more and more local townsmen begin to plant Chinese herbs. As revealed by the offi cials of the government of Aidian Town, their products of Chinese herb medicine, via CAEXPO, are being sold to more and more markets. To date, there are more than 100 operators regarding traditional Chinese medicinal materials in Aidian, with an annual turnover of over 40 thousand tons and an annual volume of transaction exceeding 600 million yuan.

A Vietnamese girl’s role as a senior volunteer

In terms of previous CAEXPOs held in Nanning,“Maybe I have much deeper experience than others,”said Miss Tran, a Vietnamese girl born and raised in Hanoi, who has been actively engaged in CAEXPO’s related activities. “I love my hometown in Hanoi, and I also love each place concerning CAEXPO each year.”Miss Tran fascinated by Chinese historic culture was admitted to the Department of Chinese of Hanoi University twelve years ago, when CAEXPO was firstly held, and it was the first time she had learned about CAEXPO through the news reports on then Vietnamese Prime Minister’s visit to Nanning.

In 2012, she was enrolled at Guangxi University of Nationalities to study international relations. As Nanning is the permanent host place of CAEXPO,she enjoyed many opportunities to participate in the

related activities when studying in Nanning. Over the past four years, she has been serving as a volunteer to introduce Vietnams’ competitive enterprises and industries to Chinese travelling merchants, and also explain cooperation needs of Chinese travelling merchants to Vietnam.

“Several years later, the 13th CAEXPO will be held in Nanning again, when I will be busy with the relevant activities.” This year, Vietnam will serve as CAEXPO’s Country of Honor, so Miss Tran is having more visions to it, with a strong sense of excitement and pride.

“I believe that CAEXPO is not only a platform of providing business opportunities for cooperation between Vietnam and China, but also serves as a tie linking Vietnam with the permanent host place --Nanning, during which we can enjoy many happy moments.”
