CHINA TODAY 2015年7期

I love being able to keep up with the latest China news via your magazine, even from so far away. I am a professor and I am writing to let you know that both teachers and students of our college enjoy reading your magazine, especially the column “Characteristic Chinese,” which helps us to learn more about Chinese language and culture. Although reading reports online is very convenient, we still enjoy receiving China Today regularly by post.

I first visited China in 1998, a dream that I had pursued for a long time. I have since been there three times and I hope to make more visits in the future. Every issue of China Today that I read reignites my enthusiasm for revisiting this amazing country. I am always eager to read articles that clearly reflect Chinas cultural, social, and political events, and the challenges China now faces in complex global circumstances. Thanks so much for your hard work. I look forward to reading more high-quality reports in future issues.

I am fond of Chinese culture and curious about Chinas efforts at pollution control, especially the green lifestyle of Chinese people. While visiting China in 2011, I was impressed by Chinas economic development, but overwhelmed by air pollution in Chinas major cities. With millions of cars spewing toxic fumes, the air in Shanghai and Beijing was so polluted that I had to wear a surgical mask to go out. I was told this was a new phenomenon. Only a decade ago, most people got around on bikes and pollution was not a problem. Now, the Chinese are buying more cars than the Americans, and pollution has become a serious problem. As China cannot go back to the bicycle era, I think the solution lies in complete electrification of automobiles. Tesla Motors, Nissan, and GM already manufacture electric or partly electric cars. Also, a Belgian company, Motor Development International (MDI), has introduced micro cars using compressed air. I hope to read more reports on Chinas further achievements in combating air pollution and the use of emission-free cars.

I want to express my thanks for the hard work that goes into every issue of China Today magazine. I am a professor at the School of Applied Arts in Cordoba, and the cultural column always provides me with useful information for the planning of my classes each month. I have contacted the Latin American branch office of China Today asking if I can obtain back issues of the magazine from 2009. I look forward to hearing from you about this.
