On September 2, the Red Cross Society of China announced on its official website that Zhao Baige would no longer act as their Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Executive Vice President of the Red Cross. It had been exactly three years since she assumed the office.

The decision came without warning, though it is not a surprise for most of the people. Years ago, a young girl named Guo Meimei showed off her extravagant private life on Sina Mirco-blog with verified identity as “Business General Manager of Red Cross”, triggering a lot of accusations and doubts over the operation and management of this humanism organization. It caused the biggest trust crisis in the history of Chinas Red Cross Society.

Three years ago, Zhao Baige was transferred to the Red Cross with the mission to push forward the reform. She has always been in the spotlight since then.

Zhao Baige used to be a vigorous and resolute reformist. With the support of higher leaders, she planned to use three years to straighten out the mess and finish the reform. However, resistance from inside the Red Cross was so huge that in the last year of her service, she barely mentioned the word “reform” in public anymore.
