On April 9, Guo Yongxiang, former vice governor of Sichuan Province was expelled from the Party and the public office. Following that, on July 2, Ji Wenlin, former vice-governor of Hainan Province, and Yu Gang, former deputy office director of the Central Political and Judiciary Commission, were expelled and dismissed both on the same day. According to the notification, Yu Gang is sacked for taking massive bribery and adultery.

Ji Wenlin and Yu Gang, along with Guo Yongxiang, Li Hualin and Shen Dingcheng, are referred by Chinas media as the “Gang of Five Secretaries”. Li Hualin formerly acted as PetroChinas vice GM and is currently under investigation. Shen Dingcheng, Party Committee Secretary of PetroChina International Co., Ltd, is also under the investigation but found missing. The five of them all served as secretaries to certain former high-ranking officials in the central government at one time or another.

Compared with Ji Wenlin whose case was announced to public in February, Yu Gang and the investigation against him have drawn more attention from the public, since it is the first time that the authority announces the details of Yu Gangs case. Among the five secretaries mentioned above, Yu Gang was the last and most mysterious one. His working resume, birth year and place cant even be found in public data.endprint
