Lacey: Hey. How you holding up? Jo: Uh, okay, I guess. You?

Lacey: Okay. I mean, my moms pissing me off[惹(某人)生气].

Danny coming back is the perfect excuse for her to bulldoze[奋力前进] her way into my life, you know?

Jo: Yeah.

Lacey: Have you started having those dreams again? Jo: No, not really.

Lacey: I have. Hes always squeezing that yellow jump rope like its a part of him or something.

Jo: Red. It...it was a red jump rope. I think.

Lacey: Look, I...I know you probably dont even care, and its not really your scene, but me and my friends are having a party tonight.

Jo: On a school night. You crazy kids.

Lacey: Yeah, well, Reginas parents are out of town, so we thought wed throw a little “Michael Myers注1 goes to our school now, lets blow off some steam”sort of shindig[狂欢会]. I mean, pretty much everyones coming. So if you want to go, you can. I dont care.

Jo: Dont do me any favors.

Lacey: Thats not what I meant.

Jo: Look, its not like I lie around wishing I could hang with you and your lame[差劲的], superficial[表面的] friends, anyway.

Lacey: Fine. Then dont come.

Lets go for a short trip and blow off some steam tonight.

Karen: Well, youre probably the

only 16-year-old left who reads the

paper.

Danny: Just catching up on the

news. Middle East is still a mess[混乱],

huh?

Karen: I already read it, Danny.

I wake up early for pilates注2,

remember?

Danny: How could I forget? Well,

at least they used a cool picture.

Menacing[威胁的]...really works for

my complexion[脾性], dont you think?

Karen: Well, Im glad you can make jokes.

Danny: Well, dad always said if you cant laugh, you might as well be dead.

Karen: If your father was here, he would want you to do everything possible to solve your situation.

Danny: Mother, weve discussed this. Im not using Lacey as an alibi[

Karen: She was with you the whole night. Danny: Yeah, and we were asleep. Im not dragging[拖累] her into this.

Karen: If the police find some way to pin this on you, you could go to jail for the rest of your life. Real jail this time. Not

juvie[少管所].

Danny: You think I dont know that?

Karen: I want to help you so badly.

Danny: But Im gonna figure this out. Okay? And Jos helping me.

Karen: Jos a sweet girl. Its the Mastersons that cant be trusted.

Danny: Well, I get hating Chief Masterson, but what do you got against Tess?

Karen: Nothing.

Danny: Well, Jo has been pretty freaking forgiving. So she must have inherited[遗传] it from someone. Cheer up, mother. Everyone may hate me now, but the police need real evidence to pin this on me. Evidence they clearly dont have.

pin… on…

Lets pin the notice on the bulletin board.

而在口语中,pin sth. on sb.

It is Marry who was really to blame, though she tried to pin it on Phoebe.

Danny: No, no one knows why.

Jo: You do. I cant…I cant help you if you dont tell me what you know.

Danny: Are you sure you want to help me?

Jo: Tell me about the necklace, Danny.

Danny: Its a family heirloom[祖传遗物]. It belonged to my aunt. It was very important to her, but I dont know why. I…I dont know how

Regina got a hold of it.

But it has nothing to do with why I did what I did. You got to believe me.(Jo sighs) Okay, Jo, I get it. I get…I get why this freaks you out. Maybe its just better if you take a couple of[几个] steps back from all this. Let me, uh, let me figure it out by myself.

Jo: Okay, um...someone took that necklace to make you look guilty[有罪的]. Someone who knew it would connect you to this crime[犯罪].

Danny: I know. So what do we do now?

Jo: I guess we have to figure out how Regina got that necklace and who has it now. It might be the person that killed her.

get (a) hold of可以表示很多意思:

She would help him get hold of a weapon.

Where can I get a hold of the copy?

When you are settled down in London, you must tell me how to get a hold of you.

3)get hold of oneself

You must get hold of yourself!(你必须控制一下自己!)

Reporter: Sources[消息灵通者] have confirmed that a search warrant[许可证] served at the Desai residence... Jo: Hold on, mom. I think dads about to get a shout-out...

Reporter: The Regina Crane murder remains unsolved[未解决的], putting the town of Green Grove[小树林] increasingly on edge heading into its famous annual Fall Festival tomo...

Kyle: (Turns off the TV) Hey, unsolved. Thats me.

Tess: Well, Festivals certainly getting a publicity[公众] bump[提升]. Maybe Ill even get a few out-of-towners signing up[报名,登记] for my pottery[陶器] class.

Jo: You dont need any extra publicity[宣传]. Your booths[货摊] gonna be awesome[令人注目的].

Kyle: Awesome enough to get you to check out the Festival this year?

Jo: Its not my thing.

Tess: Used to be. You and I would put together the most elaborate[精心制作的] outfits for you to wear to the evening formal[正式的社交活动]. Those big dresses with those fancy pink bows.

Jo: Yeah, well, Im not ten anymore, mom.

Tess: Im aware of that, sweetie.

Jo: Im sorry. Its just....That tradition is kind of dated, you know?

Kyle: Fair enough. Lets just hope for everyones sake that Danny shares your attitude.

Jo: Why? Your raid[突袭] didnt find any evidence against him. Not even the necklace.

Tess: Necklace? What necklace?

Kyle: You wanna tell her?

Jo: Regina Crane was wearing Tara Desais necklace when she died. Kyle: Is that all Danny told you?

Jo: And it was missing from Regina. Why would Danny kill Regina and then take the one thing that would make him look guilty?

Kyle: Good question. Did Danny explain to you what the deal is with this necklace?

Jo: It was a family heirloom. Anyway, arent you more interested in who gave Regina the necklace? Why she had it.

Kyle: Believe me, were looking at this from every possible angle. Jo: I have to get to school, so...

Kyle: Okay, have a nice walk.

Kyle: Connie, hey, you got my usual?

Karen: Its a big diner[餐馆], Kyle.

Kyle: I like the counter. Cozy[舒适的]. Thank you, Connie.

Karen: Thats your usual?

Kyle: Yeah. Ham[火腿]. Classic. So?

Karen: Nothing. Its exciting.

Kyle: I like to live on the edge. You okay, Karen? You seem down.

Karen: Oh, please. Like you actually care.

Kyle: Of course I do.

Karen: I had a job interview today at Bickner Realty. Turns out no ones excited about hiring a single mother with a spotty[有污渍的] resume and a notorious[声名狼藉的] son. Go figure.

Kyle: Youre better off anyway. Ray Bickners an ass. Besides, I hear he can be a little inappropriate[不适当的] around the office.

Karen: Whatever. I can handle inappropriate.

Kyle: Im sure you can. Best blueberry pie in the world.

Karen: Lets not get carried away.

Kyle: Jo loves that pie. When she was four, it was all she would eat.

Karen: I remember Tess talking about that.

Kyle: Tess and I came up with[提议] this once-a-week rule. Jo was persistent[顽固坚持的]. Pretty soon it was twice a week, then three times, and before long we just gave up.

Karen: Only children....We spoil them.

Dont get carried away with romantic notions.

Lacey: Danny.

Jo: Is everything okay?

Danny: Yeah, yeah. Everythings good.

Lacey: Hows everything with your mom?

Danny: She retracted[撤消] her confession[口供].

Jo: Wow, so theyre just gonna let her go?

Danny: Yeah, there wasnt enough actual evidence to hold her now. Which means...

Lacey: It means you dont have to move to Arizona. Danny, thats...

Danny: Its great. It is. It is great. Um, but...

Jo: The necklace. If she didnt kill Regina, then how did she get it?

Danny: From me. She got the necklace from me.

Lacey: Wha...

Danny: I know what you guys are thinking, okay. But I did not take that necklace from Regina, I swear. The day after she died, I just found it. It was in my locker...

Lacey: Your locker? Seriously?!

Danny: Lacey, Im telling you the truth.

Lacey: How are we supposed to believe that?! Youve lied to us over and over again, Danny! Were done.

Danny: Lacey. Lacey! Jo, just listen to me. Okay? Just...can you just listen to me, please? Can you listen to me?

Mark has done with Lucy.

Im done!(我受够了!)
