Nick： So， tell me what happened.

Jodan： Well I dont know.

Jordan： Gatsby was sent off to war， when the war ended， Daisy waited， but for some unknown reason， Gatsby couldnt return. A year later， Tom Buchanan of Chicago swept in and stole her away. He gave her a string of pearls worth$350，000. On the morning of the wedding， Daisy received a letter.

Tom： What kind of a row are you trying to cause in my house anyhow？

Daisy： He isnt causing a row. Youre causing a row. Please have a little self-control.

Tom： Self-control？！ Oh I suppose the latest thing is to sit back and let Mr. Nobody from nowhere make love to your wife. Well if thats the idea， you can 14）count me out. See， nowadays， people begin by sneering at family life and family institutions and the next youll know， well throw everything overboard， and well have intermarriage between black and white！

Gatsby： Your wife doesnt love you. She never loved you. You see， she loves me.

Tom： You must be crazy.
