Commissioning of 5 kt/a MTP Pilot Unit
On December 17, 2012 the 5-kt/a methanol-to-propylene (MTP) pilot unit was successfully put on stream at the Olefins Plant of Yangzi Petrochemical Company, which symbolized that SINOPEC has successfully opened up a novel process route for production of coal-based basic organic chemical materials
The construction of 5-kt/a MTP pilot unit was kicked off in October 2011, which has been envisaged in SINOPEC’s ten key technical plans. This project adopts the patented technology licensed by SINOPEC Shanghai Petrochemical Research Institute (SPRI), which uses methanol as the starting material in place of imported crude oil to manufacture propylene. This pilot unit, which is fully buttressed by the existing ethylene unit, is characteristic of good process compatibility, low investment cost, and short construction cycle.
