As the largest pillar industry of Chifeng industrial economy, metallurgical industry offers half of industrial added value and approximately 60% of fiscal revenue of the city. In recent years, Chifeng continues to extend industrial chain and enhance industrial level by relying on nonferrous metals resources, striving to build the nonferrous metals industrial processing base of China.

These days, the workshops of the project of NFC Kubohongye Zinc Co., Ltd (Phase IV)that went into operation not long ago were bustling and workers were busy in processing zinc ingots. It is reported that the company’s annual output of zinc ingot will reach 210,000 tons after Phase IV achieves its designed yield.Wang Fengchao, General Manager of Chifeng NFC Kubohongye Zinc Co., Ltd., said “we are making plans for Phase V and doing some pre-liminary work, aiming to build the zinc capital of north China.”

With more than 3,000,000 tons of available reserves, Chifeng is rich in molybdenum resources. However, since there is not a single molybdenum smelting company in Chifeng,large quantities of molybdenum concentrate are sold to other places. Through great efforts, the molybdenum-iron processing project (annual output: 10,000 tons) of Linxi Jinyu Molybdenum Processing Co., Ltd. of Northeast Special Steel Group went into operation in Chifeng this year, filling the blank of molybdenum-iron processing.

In addition, the project of Chifeng Shanjin Hongling Mining Company (daily mining &dressing volume: 3000 tons of ore), Jinfeng crude copper smelting project (110,000 tons),electrolytic copper project of Jinjian Company(annual output:150,000 tons) and NFC Zinc smelting extension project (100,000 tons) are also becoming new pillars for the metallurgic industry of Chifeng. Yading oxide-free copper rod project (100,000 tons) is growing into a deep-processing nonferrous industrial cluster.Currently, there are 175 metallurgical enterprises above designated size in the whole city,and 28 nonferrous metals mines and mining &dressing enterprises are being built, renewed,reconstructed and extended. A local source said: “during the 12th Five-Year Plan period,we aim to build Chifeng into a processing base of the nonferrous metals of China, turn resource base into processing base, and increase annual nonferrous metals smelting capacity to 1,200,000 tons.”
