Abstract: This paper has analyzed a teaching case which is the first class of Unit2 “Wheres the post office” for 7th grade students.

In this unit Ss learn to ask for and give directions on the street.

Is there a bank near here? Yes, there is. Its on Center Street.

Wheres the supermarket? Its next to the library.

Is there a pay phone in the neighborhood? Yes, its on Bridge Street on the right.

New words: post office, restaurant, library, supermarket, bank, park, pay, street, center, mail, near, bridge, across, between, front, behind

Language structures: Is there a bank near here? Yes, it is. / No, there isnt. Wheres the bank?Its on Center Street.

Teaching steps

Step1 Leading in

Ask two rows of three Ss each to stand facing each other in the front of the classroom. Point to Ss standing in front and ask the class to repeat the questions and answers.

T: Wheres Yang Li? (Point to two Ss standing beside each other) S:Yang Li is next to Li Peng.

T: Wheres Zheng Wen?(Point to two Ss in different lines facing each other.) S:Zheng Wen is across from Sheng Lin.

T: Where ‘s Lin Jiahui?( Point to one student standing between two other Ss.) S:Lin Jia hui is between Sheng lin and

Li Dai. Let students do the dailouge.

Step2 . Learning (多媒体课件图片)

Section A 1a Learn the new words in 1a. The new words are: post office, restaurant, library, supermarket, bank, park, pay, street, center, mail, near, bridge, across, between, front, behind.

T: I want to find a small teacher to teach the new words.who want to try.

After learning the new words, ask Ss to match each word on the list with one of the pictures.

T:I will give you 3 minutes to make a words lists.

Step 3 Listening (1b)

Ask the students to listen to the conversations and circle the places in 1a.

T: Next well listen to three conversations and youll have to circle the places you hear on the tape.

Play the recording and ask the students to repeat after the recording this way: Girls repeat the questions and boys the answers.

Girls: Is there a restaurant on Fifth Avenue?

Boys: Yes, there is.

Change the roles and do the same again.

Boys: Is there a restaurant on Fifth Avenue?

Girls: Yes, there is.

Then students ask and answer without the help of the recording.

Step 4 Practice

1. Point to the different locations shown in the picture. Ask different students to name each one.

T: I will point out the different locations in the picture. Please name each one when I point it out. And the others have to repeat after him or her.

Point to the restaurant. Call a students name.

S1: Restaurant.

Ss: Restaurant.

Point to the park. Call another students name.

S2: Park.

Ss: Park.

...

Then point to more locations and let the students to practice more.

2. Show the following. Ask the students to work in pairs and practice the conversation in 1c.

—Is there a _______ near here?

—Yes, there is. Its on _________.

T: Now work in pairs and read the conversation in Activity 1c with your partner. Ask and answer questions about the other places in the picture.

Sample conversations:

(1) S: Is there a bank near here?

R: Yes, there is. Its on Center Street.

(2) S: Is there a library near here?

R: Yes, there is. Its on Fifth Avenue.

3. Ask the students to do chain work.

T: Now lets do some chain work. One of you asks a question. And the other answers and then asks a third student a question and on and on ...

S1: Is there a shop near here?

S2: Yes, there is. It is on the Bridge Street. (Turn back) Is there a bank near here?

S3: Yes, there is. Its on Fifth Avenue. (Turn back) Is there a restaurant near here?

S4: Yes, there is. Its on Bridge Street. (Turn back) Is there a pay phone near here?

S5: Yes, there is. Its on Bridge Street. (Turn back)Is there a library near here?

S6: Yes, there is. Its on Fifth Avenue. (Turn back) Is there a hotel near here?

S7: Yes, there is. Its on Bridge Street. (Turn back) Is there a supermarket near here?

S8: Yes, there is. Its on Fifth Avenue. (Turn back) Is there a post office near here?

S9: Yes, there is. Its on Bridge Street. (Turn back) Is there a ...?

...Step 5Homework

1. Practise the conversation in Activity 1c on page 7. 2. Learn the new words and phrases in this period by heart.

本课是七年级下第二单元Wheresthepostoffice?的第一课

本单元有以下特点:

1词汇量大,本单元要求识记的 单词多达64个,是平时两个单元的内容。这些单词基本上都表示地方和方位介词学生易混词。

2要求学会掌握词路的基础方法及正确的回答方法。这几年中考都涉足有这方面的内容。

3反义词的认识,形容词和名词的区分。学生上课时并没有体现太多,而课后的练习涉足较多,在考试中对这一块考查较多。

所以在课堂上要巧妙安排活动进行练习

教学反思:

本节课文要学习section A部分,重点是几个表地点的建筑

物,要求学生掌握及一个重点句型there be结构。1a学习中要

求学生把所给词汇与图片中地名搭配起来,并以对话形式练习“问

路与指路”。 多媒体课件图片有些以卡通的形式出现,有很强的趣味性。在2a学习中要求学生重点掌握这几个介词:across from、next to、between、and及behind之间的位置关系,讓学生说自己所处的位置充分练习几个方位介词,让学生真正弄懂其真实意义,然后再回到课本中,以听力方式完成2b,根据听力完成这几个介词填空。在同学们练习的过程中,能够引导学生由wheres…….?逐渐过渡到Is there……..?对本单元两个基本句型进行充分练习。上课时让学生充当小老师考查学生的预习能力,并给学生自我表现的机会。学生做对话时注意了小组之间的帮扶,充分做到了以学生为主体,发挥了学生的自主能动性。
