In recent years, various urban constructions in China have come up with unprecedented tide, symbolizing constructions, big squares and walking streets have become the focal point of urban construction. On consideration of urban beautification and urban sculpture, public art starts to be widely focused on by government and society. In modern urban design, especially some key-constructed projects, planning and designing of public art has become one of the most important cultures. It should be said that China's urban public art construction has entered a new development period.

From public art relations to urban cultural grade, urban value and urban image, we should change our mentality, hand over cities to citizens and hand over art to citizens to make art rooted in urban environment and rooted in citizens' lives. The development of public art is the requirement of era and historical necessity. As professional workers, we are duty-bound.

近年来，全国各地的城市建设出现了空前的高潮，标志性建筑物、大型广场、步行街等成为新一轮城市建设的重点，与此同时，出于对城市美化的考虑，城市雕塑、公共艺术也开始受到来自政府和社会的广泛关注，现在在城市设计中，特别是一些重点建设项目，对于公共艺术的规划设计已经成为非常重要的内容之一。应该说，当前我国城市的公共艺术建设迎来了一个新的发展时期。

公共艺术与城市设计一样，同属于设计范畴，它是现代城市设计的重要语言，城市设计是公共艺术的依托。一座城市应当是文化性和功能性的结合体，对于城市而言，没有公共艺术是枯燥无味的，同样，如果没有城市设计，公共艺术也难以寻找立足之地。特别是在当前城市个性逐渐消失，城市问题变得日益突出的时候，公共艺术的存在就更显现出它的必要性。回顾过去，我们注意到，城市雕塑、公共艺术的发展与城市设计的发展一直是处于互动的过程当中。城市设计决定了公共艺术的存在形式与内容，公共艺术的价值观和对人文方面的思考又反过来影响了城市设计的方向和价值取向。作为一个从事公共艺术工作的艺术家，如果能更多地了解，甚至参与城市设计，就有可能创造出更优秀的公共艺术作品。反之城市设计师对公共艺术的特点有更多了解的话，对于丰富设计语言、完善城市空间和设计理念的创新会有很好的帮助。
