“Tea for Ceremony Yaji Cultural Salon”—Chongqing Tourism Promotion Meeting Held in London

The “Tea for Ceremony Yaji Cultural Salon”—Chongqing Tourism Promotion Meeting was held in London on July 28. This event was co-organized by the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development and the China National Tourist Office London, with the aim to drive Chongqings cultural tourism to expand beyond its borders and strengthen its international appeal, influence, and visibility.

At the meeting, the cultural and natural treasures of Chongqing were unveiled before the attending guests from the UK. These included the intangible cultural heritage Yongchuan Xiuya tea, the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Dazu Rock Carvings, the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Wulong Karst National Geology Park, Nanchuan Jinfo Mountain, Wushan Wulipo Nature Reserve, as well as the Yangtze River Three Gorges cruise and the 8D Magic City Tour. The organizers also arranged a Chongqing cultural tourism photo exhibition, the Yongchuan Xiuya Tea Ceremony, and a delightful session for taste-testing of famous local teas and desserts. At the lucky draw part, special prizes such as Yangtze River Golden Cruise tickets, air tickets for a round-trip between London and Chongqing, and Yongchuan Xiuya tea gift sets received enthusiastic responses from the guests. This further enhanced their love and longing for Chongqing.

Wendy Wu, CEO of Wendy Wu Travel Group, expressed that the convenient E-Visa visa service in Chongqing has greatly facilitated the entry of British tourists. Wendy said, during her visit to Chongqing in March this year, she felt the warmth and hospitality of the locals, as well as the rapid rise of the tourism industry. This has given her great confidence in the Chinese tourism market.

Liu Xiaonian, Deputy-Secretary of the CPC Committee and Deputy Director-General of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development, expressed that this event established a platform for intercultural exchange and mutual friendship between the UK and Chongqing. He looked forward to deeper cooperation in cultural tourism and closer people-to-people exchanges in both regions. Mr. Liu also invited British individuals to attend the 2023 Chongqing Global Travel Agents Conference and the Concert of World Great Rivers, personally experiencing the unique charm of Chongqings new cultural and tourism offerings.

Xue Ling, Director of China National Tourist Office London, introduced that the brand activities developed by the office, including “Rediscover China in the UK” and the China Tourism and Culture Weeks, have garnered extensive attention from various sectors in the UK. The office would continue to collaborate with Tianjin Airlines, Wendy Wu Travel Group, and Huabo Dongfang International Investment (Hengqin) Co., Ltd. to further advance cultural exchanges and promote tourism in Chongqing, thus enhancing awareness and appreciation of Chongqing among a wider audience.
