字面上看，“着力点”当是“用力的地方”或“致力的方向”，英文应该是the focus of ones effort，正巧focus的英文释义是an act of concentrating interest or activity on something，颇为匹配。然而，在具体翻译实践中，往往无法用此了之。试看以下各例：

原文：找准突破的方向和着力点

译文：pinpoint the direction of our effort to break down the barriers

點评：仿佛演员本色出演，这个译法大概也是本色翻译。

原文：中国将把推动发展的着力点转到提高质量和效益上来。

译文：China will shift its development focus to improving the quality and efficiency of growth.

点评：这句汉语中，“着力点”颇似“工作重心”，译文得“意”忘“形”。

原文：我们为此作出全面深化改革的总体部署，着力点之一就是……

译文：To do so， we have made overall plans for driving our reform to a deeper level. A key focus of this drive is to…

点评：英文对应词focus容易想到，但见到“之一”也要敢于适时地直接使用不定冠词，而不是动辄使用“one of…”。

原文：中央提出抓作风建设，反对形式主义、官僚主义、享乐主义，反对奢靡之风，就是提出了一个抓反腐倡廉建设的着力点，提出了一个夯实党执政的群众基础的切入点。

译文：The CPC Central Committee has called upon us to improve our working practice by opposing the Four Malfeasances. This serves as a focus for combating corruption and upholding integrity， as well as a starting point for consolidating popular support for the Partys governance.

点评：从这一译例，读者可以得出结论：汉语中常说的“工作中的抓手”，其实在英语中也可使用focus。汉英翻译，很多情况下，很难找到完全对应的词汇，能否清楚而且准确地表达原义，完全取决于我们对两种语言的宏观把握。
