Since its founding in 1949， the new China has attached great importance on issues pertaining to the countryside， agriculture， and farmers， and has been dedicated to promoting agricultural production， improving its governance in rural areas， and improving living conditions of rural people. Chinas agricultural development has achieved phenomenal historic accomplishments.

Over the past 70 years， China has supported a population accounting for nearly 20 percent of the world total with less than 9 percent of the worlds arable land. Over 700 million rural people have been lifted out of poverty. Not only has China overcome the challenges of feeding a billion-plus population， but also contributed Chinese experience to global food security， poverty alleviation， and sustainable development of agriculture. The foundation of China as an established granary has been consolidated and the management of grain production has maintained its efficiency， demonstrating Chinas strategic vision toward food security.
